depends on where he is. If he is in Iraq then sunscreen, lotion, aloe gel for sun burn, baby wipes (for bathing) I have heard that some of them are with out a shower for a good while. Also don't send things that can spoil. Or things that are in glass jars that can break. Been there done that. Cookies work well in a box maybe some powdered Gatorade, my friend said her brother in Iraq was wanting some badly and for the whole platoon or whatever the marines call it. We are navy. Books to read cross word puzzles video from home card, letters, pictures, things that remind him of home. Just make sure if you do put breakables in there that you wrap it separately so that it wont get on the other stuff. OH a few more items, Tp, chap-stick with sun screen, socks and maybe some shoe polish. As for the personal stuff you have got to do that one. But if you put it in a box wrap it in brown paper and address it and ship it from the post office, it should be fine. You can't get confirmation to a fleet or where ever it is going as far as I know. But insure it just in case. Or you can have the folks at the ups place to pack it for you and they use filler if there are any spaces. It is only a little bit more in the price. Good luck

US priority mail boxes work just fine and you can put pre-packaged food, the boxes get here in 7 to 10 days usually unless you fed ex and then it might be 48 hours (real experience this week)

basic snack items are good but dont go overboard with personal hygiene stuff cause we have that stuff available here and can get the stuff we like

current magazines are good too like time people and even us ok and inside just like the stuff people like to have at home

Soap, combs, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorants, non-perishable foods. There are many things that can be shipped safely. If you are not sure how to package them, you might check with your local post office, or your local army recruiting center. Good luck.
