The Japanese governent is giving full approval to kill pregnant Humpback whales for "reseach". After that the meat will be sold for profit.

Avoiding the pregnant ones would probably be a good idea to ensure that the population does not decline too much (i.e. to make sure that they will still have a supply of whale meet in future years).

From a moral point of view I think it all comes down to whether the whales are intelligent, if they are then the ships that are used to hunt them need to be sunk (unless they get converted to do something else) while if the whales aren't intelligent then the people who try to stop them would need to be dealt with when they attack the fishing vessels.

I also think that this whole crap about it being for research needs to stop, if whales are intelligent then there's no justification to killing them for science and if they aren't then there's no reason to oppose sustainable commercial whaling).

because you get 1 1/2 whales for the price of 1 i guess. i'm sorry but in all honesty they are just really big cows.
the only people i respect in this argument are the vegans because they're not going around saying the killing of one animal is OK while another is not. a whale steak or tuna sandwich either way an animal died for you to eat it. i'm going to enjoy my sandwich and not criticize people on the other side of the world for eating theirs.

Because they believe they have the right to do whatever they want - after all, didn't our government spend billions of dollars "apologizing" for bombing their country because they refused to listen to anyone many years ago? They know then now can get away with just about anything they want.

Okay...that is wrong on so many levels. They also allow people to hunt dolphins when they are considered endangered species. I don't know what they are trying to do over there.

Maybe 'cause they're bigger and easier to hit?

Regardless, would you want to eat any meat that has been used for 'research' first?
