The fact is, everyone with the exception of the truly deviant, wants, and works for what they consider to be best for America. Opinions on what is 'BEST' is debatable, but the liberal label... is it not false. What I mean, when someone says they are a 'liberal' are they not really saying "I am holier than tho!!!"?

I see your point with people following the likes of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. I can see where they may have that kind of attitude.
Liberals are at risk for trading their rationale for out and out emotion.
Al Sharpton spews venom, that really helps no one and actually hurts the liberal. Back in 1987 when a black teenager was allegedley raped and beaten. Sharpton impicated the New York D.A. Steven Pagones in the attack and was subsequently convicted of slander, to which he never apologized or paid.
Sharpton's attacks on white businesses never helped increase the economic status of black people. If he would stop his emotional accusations of one people against another, and offered solutions to social problems, the civil rights movement that the radical left has sponsored would not be in such decay.
Sharpton epitomizes the lack of rationality, and the holier than thou attitudes from recent liberal thought.

liberal just means wanting radical change. It depends on what you want to change radically, if you will receive the wacko label
Ron Paul is pretty damn liberal about our monetary system. Yet he is labeled a conservative. There are people who identify as liberals for many different reasons. I do because I believe our tax money should be spent on social services (can't help it, I used to be a caregiver). My parents identify as liberal because they work for the government/union, and it is in their economic best interest (I don't think they care about the other policies).
Some people are holier than thou conservatives. They go for making morals law (abortion for example). Then there are many more who are are Conservative because they work for the corporations or the military.
I think we are all a little confused. Most Americans vote with their wallets in the end anyways...nothing holier than thou about that....I think we know deep down inside both sides of congress are scum...so we just back whoever our employer is backing and get on with it...

In the late 18th and the entirety of the 19th century -- the word "liberal" used to refer to one who advocated that government's only role was to protect freedom. Protect the individuals' right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
The socialist "progressives" of the early 20th century did what all liberals do -- confiscate. They took on the "liberal" monikor and bastardized it. Today, about the only freedoms they espouse are free speech (but only if you are a liberal - if you are a conservative - it'd better be politically correct free speech), kill unborn babies, marry whom/whatever you wish to and the right to use the federal system to take, take, take from those that make it happen every day and subsidize those that do not.
True classical liberals today are called Libertarians

The word liberal has somehow become a slander. It has not always been so. It has become a code word for communist, or socialist that certain conservative groups use to label anyone with which they disagree. It would certainly make those conservatives seem holier than thou. At least in their own eyes.

You may be onto somehing here.
I've noticed that those of a more liberal persuasion use the word "diversity" a good bit.
Wheras, when it comes to accepting real diverse opinions and ideas, liberals as well as conservatives tend to have their own but liberals seem to be more close minded and only desire diverse opinion that is exactly like their own.

Yes. There is nothing holy about liberals. Any mention of anything that might be seen as a reference to God will get you slammed by the ACLU.

No. "Holier than though" was just the wrong choice of words . . . which party do the "Holy" flock to . . . try the question again with "better than you" or some other common expression . . . "Holier than though" is just too ironic.
I'd answer the question but can't stop laughing . . .
