Because they have a strong union that looks out for them.

Plus, it is dirty smelly work that most don't want to do.

In America, many blue collar jobs pay more then office workers.

I know I wouldn't want to be a plumber, no matter what the pay. Bending over all day long, twisting your body into crawl spaces that only spiders and ants like, shoveling $hit out of a clogged up toilet --------- would you want to do that?

Plus it takes one hell of a lot of skill to be a plumber. It may look easy, but it is anything but. They work damned hard for their bucks.

Social workers, I wouldn't want that job either. Having to say no to people in need, or wade through the BS would turn even the most sympathetic person into a cynical uncaring human. They are not paid enough.

Peace

Jim

Because plumbing can be hard physical labor and also takes a lot of troubleshooting and hard thinking depending on what your doing that day, while the job of a social worker can be done by anyone with a heart who doesn't mind spending money on earning a degree and making no cash helping the elderly, sick and mentally handicapped... and who ever else that needs them. There is a lot of stuff a plumber needs to know. Codes change a lot, and plumbers work with gas and have to get re-certified every couple of years for different things like backflow etc. In Maryland someone has to be plumbing for 4 yrs to become a journeyman than another 2 to become a master plumber. This all involves test taking and ever college now.

A question to you is why do dentist make more money than plumbers?

They do a really useful job for society, using learned skill and common sense. Social workers may be more academically qualified but know more about being politically correct than common sense. M y old Mum would know straight away if a kid was being starved, beaten or abused.....more than you can say about many social workers. I worked in local government child care and wouldn't pay most social workers with the rusty washers plumbers discard.

Put it this way a union plumber can make 31.00 hr after finishing the apprenticeship I doubt a social worker makes that much... Depending on work some can make 100,000 a year! Now non union plumbers dont make as much 18.00 and a bit up which still is not bad!

Each job varies with a plumber's work. Social workers are salary and make the same thing for each case.

Have you seen what kind of jobs plumbers do?
The messes, the smells, and sometimes the time involved.
Social workers are usually sitting back comfortably with a cup of coffee, listening to someone's problems.

social workers dont crawl under floorboards to get to pipe work clean out cess pits that are blocked with all kinds of smelly ungodly items, what do social wokers do, sit, dictate, answer phones visit people, cant decide whether a child is safe until its found dead, or missing by the media often take children away when they are okay with the parents, because they have not researched, or taken the witnesses account to mind first. my bloke gets £40 a hour,so a social worker should get more, or the same

Plumbers get into societies waste with their hands, social workers just talk about societies waste, and write reports about it.

When a plumber gets done with his job, you no longer have to deal with the waste.

Social workers don't SOLVE anything, it just goes on and on.
