Take yourself away from the situation that caused it - just leave - say you have to go to the lavatory or whatever - . Physically do something first with the adrenaline in your body - punch the air - kick - shake yourself all over -run on the spot scream or shout if there is no-one around.

When you start calming down ask yourself what that was really all about? what thoughts or feelings were you defending by trying to act outwards in that way. What is your vulnerability?

When you start to own what is yours, you might just buy a slither of time in which to decide to behave differently.
I like the idea that anger is a force for change - so find out what you want to change for yourself - because you cannot force others to change.

And that anger is passion without the blame.
useful when used with wisdom and not with the mad hat on.

The classic advice is to count to ten. It's famous because it works.

Anger can even be controlled by time and silence. If you feel angry just keep quiet for sometime... mull things over. Let out your steam inside your head before you get a chance to do it in reality. It's possible that your anger was quite pointless. You save yourself a lot of trouble by neglecting to vent it out at the time.

I control my anger for being totally quiet or remove myself from the situation by walking away for at least 5 minutes. That way I get a chance to think before I say or do something that I would regret.

Buddists have the best thoughts about it. It has to do with accepting anything that makes you angry, and bring your life in balance again. You can do something about the causes later, but reacting immediately is useless. They're really good at it. Read some of their texts.

Paxil helps me deal with the issues that cause me to explode in anger. When I take it regularly, I am able to approach the things that annoy me and deal with them more calmly.

Talk to you regular physician about your problems with anger and see what he or she recommends. I get my prescription, not from a psychologist, but from my physician.
