I've been on ortho for the last 3 months and its starting to get cold and I'm starting to get sick! What medicines can I take without it effecting my birth control? ny quil? day quil? tylenol?

Tylenol and another one called Robitussin might be ok but I would recommend checking with your doctor as well to see what they say.

Over the counter cold and flu medications are fine, but you can always check with your pharmacist when buying medications. If you're taking herbal medications, use back up. Many have not been studied, so it's wise to use back up contraception if you're using any herbal products. It is a well known fact that St. John's wort (used for very mild depression and anxiety does effect birth control). Other medications known to effect hormonal birth control are antibiotics and anti-epileptics (which are sometimes used to treat mood disorders).
