I have homes in Oklahoma and Texas; both in the USA. We are notorious for our lack of "compassion" for murders. This region is number one in executions.
Despite a relatively high rate of poverty we have a decent crime rate.
We highly encourage all violent offenders to move along to the Northern states where they are much more enlightened then we are.
We are a bunch of law and order hicks down here.
Good luck getting it back in the UK, you need it.

Before people in the UK make up their minds they may want to look at the experience of the USA with capital punishment.
124 people on death rows have been released with proof that they were wrongfully convicted. DNA is available in less than 10% of all homicides and isn’t a guarantee we won’t execute innocent people.
The death penalty doesn't prevent others from committing murder. No reputable study shows the death penalty to be a deterrent. To be a deterrent a punishment must be sure and swift. The death penalty is neither. Homicide rates are higher in states and regions that have it than in states that don’t.
We have a good alternative. Life without parole is now on the books in 48 states. It means what it says. It is sure and swift and rarely appealed. Life without parole is less expensive than the death penalty.
The death penalty costs much more than life in prison, mostly because of the legal process which is supposed to prevent executions of innocent people.
The death penalty isn't reserved for the worst crimes, but for defendants with the worst lawyers. It doesn't apply to people with money. When is the last time a wealthy person was on death row, let alone executed?
The death penalty doesn't necessarily help families of murder victims. Murder victim family members across the country argue that the drawn-out death penalty process is painful for them and that life without parole is an appropriate alternative.
Problems with speeding up the process. Over 50 of the innocent people released from death row had already served over a decade. If the process is speeded up we are sure to execute an innocent person.

Yup. That's the only way to stop crimes. Not only bringing back capital punishment, but executing convicted criminals within days of conviction, instead of waiting 15 years before they're executed -that's if the sentence is not overturned since they can usually appeal, and that's the only reason why capital punishment isn't that successful in deterring criminlas. With crime rates so high, and criminals so emboldened, the only way is a very harsh and swift justice system instead of the current system that gives criminals far more rights than it does the victims. If any one shoud have rights it's the victims not the criminals. Criminals are humans too ?? BS.

Unfortunately, DNA is present in a MINORITY of crimes, and even then, it is NOT infallible, especially as long as it is being processed and handled by humans. Second, and more importantly, capital punishment has never been successfully demonstrated to have the deterrent effect you desire in any quality research by a non-biased researcher.

Unfortunately police will plant DNA when there is pressure to "solve " a case.
Do you want to become like the USA?
Hasn't stopped violence there.
