It is the social role that is outlined and dictated by the society. Dolls for the girls and toy guns for the boys. Women provides the continuity of the race- with a "little" help from men:)- and men hunt and protect.
Nothing much changed since pre-historic times really.
On the other hand, despite my strong motherly instincts (yeah, you witnessed just a small dash of it :P) why I preferred to play with mud, tree branches, and efforts in making "special" mashes with crushed plants which supposedly had magical powers instead of playing with barbies and dolls remains a mystery, well, at least to my mom :).
Maybe I was "designed" to be the witch doctor of the tribe, who knows? :)

I was also wondering the same.During childhood girls don't like to go out often whereas boys do. So girls seek company in the form of dolls & teddy bears.. This is what I used to think..hehe

At 46, I still like soft, squooshy stuffed animals.
As dolls go, my love for them was short-lived. I remember when I was 5, I had a baby sister... Mom used to take her for walks in a big pram, and I had my baby doll and would take it for walks in its pram. I remember watching my mom with my sis and everything she did, I did.
Once, when we got back to the apt., my mom caught me rolling my sis around her crib. When asked what I was doing, I said I was looking for the string to pull to make her talk. :-)
Anyway, I think little girls have that "mommy" instinct. By the time I was 7, I was into horses, and long past "girly" things like dolls.

We want to take care of soft, cuddly, furry things like teddy bears, babies, kittens, puppies and dolls and ... hairy loving men like Daddy and Grandpa and Santa and NoxecA...

I honestly never was big on bears or dolls.
I actually am alittle creeped out about their eyes
staring at me when I tried to sleep probably
cause of watching chucky too much.
I got a sanrio cinnamoroll plush on my wall in the wrapper
still and since my best friend and my ex had got me the same one on the same holiday the other used to sleep in bed with me.
I also got to music puppets from india that i got at the flea market at the church near my house on my wall.
I have to say the only two bears I ever loved was the one my great gma got me at the hampton horse show or whatever it was called and the one my husband to be had since he was 6. I been sleeping with his bear since he gave me it... meant alot to him and he gave it to me so it means alot to me.
sorry I kinda rambled.

No secret. They are encouraged and taught this response. Maybe some are lonely.
My daughters never wanted to play with dolls.

Because the dolls reprisented us girls and the cuddly bears was our husands. And Barbie was our daughters. Just a thought. Really its because we played house with them, guess it prepared us for familyhood and motherhood.
