The term "consent of the governed" has been defined in many ways. Every politician claims to of the people and for the people, and if the schmuck gets elected by the people, there you go.

Our founding fathers, did not believe that actual consent was required for one to be bound in contract. Therefore, since you have inherited the use of the streets and roads and constitutional rights by virtue of being born here, you also inherited the governmental system and the duty to support and defend it by obeying its laws and paying its taxes. If you do not accept the social contract your parents left you with, then your only option is to get into the government or leave..

So while I often think that government is usually of the aristocracy, by the special interests, and for corporate profits, I have accepted this fact by not voting with my feet. I also worked for the governnment for over 15 years.

We had a joke. "Hi - I'm from the government, I'm here to help you" But occasionally the law would permit us to do something good. Someday it might be an institution worthy of popular respect.

You don't say what country you are in. In the US, those phrases apply, but we citizens have to stay on top of things to keep our elected officials somewhat in line.
