Swimming and having a bath

* You can swim and have baths while you have your period. The water will quickly wash out any blood in the vagina and after the first few minutes the loss will be so small no-one else will see it.
* Bathwater, pool water or sea water cannot get inside your body when you have a period (just as it cannot get inside when you are not having a period).
* Going to the toilet before going swimming could help you feel more confident about this, since the flow of urine will help to wash away any blood from the vagina.
* Women who swim a lot usually use a tampon. They need to remove the tampon as soon as they get out of the water, and put in a dry one.

Jacqlyn's answer is the best and most appropriate for this. For those who say "No," repectfully, I've gotta say you're lagging some. This has long been resolved for American women. It has been a known fact that it's perfectly ok for a menstruating woman to swim since back in the late 1960's. Tampax were convenient and discreet and let us get back into the pool.

What is no surprise to me is the reasons you give to support your "No" answers hark back to the biblical times when menstruating women were considered "impure" and needed to be socially confined and then ritually purified after their periods were over.

Well, I wouldn't just dive into a pool when I'm on my period, because the blood will show in the water, and can be quite embarressing.
However, if you wear a tampon you can do just about anything you would do not on your period.
Pads don't protect in the water remember that.
So as long as you're wearing a tampon (Remember to switch it every few hours) you can swim as much as you like.

Yeah, it's no problem at all. BUT, if you don't use tampons then some blood is going to get in the water and you will possibly have some on your swimsuit afterwards.

Yes, if you are using a tampax. Use a super. It is actually very good excersie and helps with period pains.

Well, if you're asking whether it's ok to wear a tampon and go swimming, I wouldn't recommend it. For one, you're more "open" when you have your period, so you're more vulnerable to infection (such as urinary tract infection) from unclean water or if, say, someone urinated in the pool or at the beach, etc. I never swim when I have my period; better safe than sorry.
