If you are in a good marriage, then there is no difference. Your wife should be your best friend, your love, your lover and your confidante.....thats what makes a good marriage.

The difference between a lover and a wife is like the difference between snacks and a full meal.A man needs both though at different times.

A huge difference. Before I say anything else this should also translate over to husband and lover as well. A wife/husband should be your partner in everything. It is where you share bills, responsibilities, child rearing, and a friend you can lean on, talk to and have fun with. A lover is someone who you can make love to and also have sex with (yes there is a difference). It is someone who you can explore fantasies with and express your complete sexual nature with. If we are lucky we find both people in one person and that is who we should marry.

I wonder that you might be asking the difference between wife and beloved, because people often confuse 'beloved' as 'lover'. Lover is a person who loves you and beloved is the one whom you love. I replace 'lover' with 'beloved' in your question and then my answer is--
1. Wife can only be a female while beloved can be either of male or female.
2. Seriously speaking, wife is a social/religious boundation/thought whereas beloved or what you say lover is a hearty boundation/passion.
