I just looked at the 1gb ram of my new TZ150 and it came out to be PC2-5300 (667 Mhz)!!!! All the sony specs say that ram speed is PC2-4200 (533 Mhz) and equal to fsb speed, which made sense. But what's up with the 667 Mhz RAM from Qimonda? For those of you thinking to upgrade to 2GB, this is the original 1GB that it comes with:

Now, I'm still going to upgrade to 2GB, but have the following questions:

1) Did anyone check their RAM and confirms the PC2-5300 667Mhz module?
2) For those of you already owning a 2GB RAM TZ model, what kind do you have?
3) If so, should I go with buying a 2GB 667Mhz module or stick with the production specs of 2GB 533 Mhz?
4) I believe a 667 Mhz RAM would not harm my system, it would just not work at its full speed -am I correct?
I am quite confused at this point and would appreciate any help. If you did check your RAMs (esp 2GB), could you please reply with the full model number printed on RAM sticker?

Many Thanks!

In most cases you can use faster memory in place of standard that is slower. You cannot mix the two speeds in some cases. There usually is no problem with a faster replacement, just it will run slower. Why spend the extra money if it is not needed?

I don't have your answer for 1 or 2 but 3 i can answer.
go with the cheaper of the two. The 677 mhz just won't go full speed, which may help keep your pc cooler. No harm will come to your pc. Just go with the cheaper of the two.

#4 You are absolutely right. It will work just fine.

TZ150 uses the 945GMS chipset that only supports PC2-4200 or ddr2-533:

When you put ddr2-667, BIOS will just read the SPD table of the RAM module then set the proper timings corresponding to ddr2-533 speed.
