Looking to do an overnighter from San Diego to Vegas on a Sat/Sun, I don't care about staying on the strip or even in Vegas, just need a place to sleep, and it could be an hour outside of LV, already looked into Primm to give you an idea of how far I'd head out of LV to sleep. Any ideas about Fremont St area are welcome as long as it's safe. Any other tips welcomed.

I know my way around Vegas, I just wanted to get any ideas from locals or people who go regularly and have their "go to" place, or towns outside of LV that are lower in price.

Saturday arrival is not a great time to find cheap anywhere and even worse in Vegas. Gold Coast and Plaza are around $60 and down in Primm you can stay at Whiskey Petes or Buffalo Bills for under $50. To find the best prices go to www.sidestep.com. They will search all the websites for the best prices and take you to that site to book. You could try to just arrive and look around for open rooms. In the evening the major places will advertise open room prices on their outside huge marquee. But that is taking a chance. Of course it's Vegas ... gamble.

If you go to Palace Station (I think it is off of the 15 and Sahara) and ask for rooms in "the alley", you can get rooms from $20-$35 a nite on the weekdays (I am not sure about weekends). Rooms are basic, but clean. Alley rooms don't have any views and can be noisy on delivery days, so it is best only if you are an early riser.

I would stay away from Freemont street!

Henderson is an area with some cheaper places to stay as well. Sunset station is nice and can have good deals from time to time.

If you use Hotwire.com and select a hotel in Vegas with 3 stars or better, you can't go wrong. I did it for years and never was disapointed.

Try the Gold Coast it kind of old but their room are nice besides for the old carpet. They run about $60-$100 For a quick trip thats the best I've ever found. This is what I've found on sidestep if that doen't work for you.

I know alot of the locals recommend the Orleans. I would try there. I also like the Tropicana because the rates are great and I am on the strip.

Try expedia.com. or hotels.com. They can give you some ideas of how much you'd expect to pay for a hotel. Also try your local travel agent, who might have more personal experience of hotels and motels in the area.

I would go with Boulder Station or one of their other hotels. They're usually cheaper than Primm and nice.
