This is a prime example of how pathetic the federal government is. All Bonds did was lie about taking steroids to a grand jury, or something like that. Boo hoo, with all the other issues going on in America and the world today, this seems like an issue the federal government need not worry about. What is it their business, it's Major League baseball's business! The charges are so pathetic, it's the only way they can charge Bonds with anything, obstruction and perjury. Those are two of the biggest BS charges EVER.
These will be dropped or easily beaten before spring training.

He lied to the federal government about a matter that really only concerns Major League Baseball and himself. This really isn't an issue the federal government needs to worry about! These are like mafia underworld tactics, going after people that lie to you! Big deal! This isn't the murder of a little kid or something, it's a big dumb pro athlete taking steroids! Gimme a break!

Koreaguy just doesn't get it. I've been a victim of the federal government's joke prosecutions. Thank god I didn't get charges, but the whole affair was RIDICULOUS.

I couldn't agree with you more. Who cares that he lied to the government about taking steroids? They shouldn't waste the tax payers money on this nonsense when we have other way more important things to worry about like healthcare!!!

Lying to the government is a BIG DEAL. No one is above the law.
He committed a felony. I mean, really, should the federal government only concern themselves with the so-called "big issues"? If that were the case, I guess people shouldn't be arrested for tax fraud. Tens, Hundreds of thousands, even millions of dollars isn't really much in the big scheme of things, as the federal budget is something like 2.8 TRILLION dollars.
Lying to the government under oath is a felony and should be treated as such in ALL cases. Mark my words, these charges will NOT be dropped.
And I don't think that what the federal prosecutors do have anything to do with health care or the war in Iraq. They're similar to 3 projects done by 3 completely different branches of the same corporation.

you obviously don't get the case at hand. he lied during grand jury testimony where he had bought "vitamins" from a lab that was making illegal steroids. so it is the governments business when the government raids a lab that sells illegal substances and finds documents with lists of athletes that have done business with this laboratory. if everyone just lied on the witness stand and then obstructed justice by doing so how would anyone ever be convicted of crimes. you obviously know nothing about the legal system.

When a case is made public and headlines the media the government and/or prosecutors make it their goal to make sure that justice is served according to the law. Even as harmless as Bonds taking roids to knock around a silly ball there still has to be an president set for the future. Bonds put this on himself by getting ridiculously large and bashing 756+ bombs.

If Bonds get to skate for lying to a grand jury, then they should throws out purjury as a charge. and no one has to tell the truth anymore in a legal proceeding, since it is OK to lie now.

Bonds did not have to talk to the Grand Jury but once hid did you have to tell the truth. There are consequences that have to be paid for lying if he is found guilty.

i agree, nobody died or got hurt, so hearing 10-30 yrs in jail wow
i think part of it is that it is so clear he did steroids and this is so high profile a case that by lying bonds basically flipped them the bird in front of the entire world and they don't want to let people/athletes to think they can lie
he did commit perjury, its not just he lied to baseball he lied to people in the legal system and the penalties are pretty severe

Lying is a big deal, unlike people think today. He lied every time he got on that field. He deserves whatever he gets.
