"To be just yourself in a world which is constantly trying to make you into everybody else is to fight the greatest fight that any human being can fight, and never stop fighting."
that is e.e.cummings, the poet, paraphrased by me because I can't find the exact reference
That is probably as good as anything I have ever learned besides: play nice with others.

Be quick to forgive.
It is easier said than done.
If you can apply this lesson into your life there are benefits.
You will feel better emotionally.
The opportunity to actually work through the anger becomes easier to see.
It helps to keep family and friend ties from falling apart.
And it also indicates a level of maturity is up and working.

That no problem or situation is so bad that it can't be remedied. I owe a lot to people that was helped me out of bad situations and showed me how to look to the future with optimism, because I really tend to be sort of a pesimisst at heart.

That, at that time in my life, I was only capable of only being attracted to losers. And until that changed, meaning until I changed and grew up, I'd keep stuck in this cycle. In learning that it freed me up to not become desperate to have a man in my life and to enjoy being single.
Better single then sorry.

Never get legally married. Love someone, live with them for the rest of your life, have children with them, but never get married. For some reason when it becomes legal, they get that slip of paper, people change and think they now own you, not share a commitment with you.

That one of the oldest ideas is the truest- "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Treat people right, and they will treat you right. Do bad things and hey, you get crap right back- who'd a thunk it!
Seems obvious, but most people don't seem to have a clue...

That it is easier to work for yourself than anyone else. People who work for themselves also tend to perform better on the job, as their standards are slightly higher in what they expect of themselves.
