Well..every mommy-to-be has a different idea of what should go in their maternity bag...so I'll just tell you what I had in mine.

-- hairbrush/pony tail ties

-- makeup (in case people took pictures after the birth)

-- receiving blankie (mine was extra thick/soft because both my children were born in the late fall/winter)

-- new underwear

-- comfy P.Js (because those tacky hospital gowns are uncomfortable to wear) I made sure that I brought 2-piece PJs that had a top that was the button-down type, so breast feeding (if you plan to do this) was easier.

-- warm socks

-- warm/soft slippers (nothing like the cold feeling of hospital tiles)

-- a new pillow, because hospital pillows tend to be too small/hard for my liking

-- "overnight" sanitary pads, because I knew I'd be leaky after giving birth (its a gross thought..but no grosser than having your period)

-- my favorite scented lotion and body sprays. I wanted to make myself feel "pretty" (hospitals also have this weird smell all to themselves, so wearing perfume or body spray can, at least, help you and the area around you smell nice.)

I packed all of this at a moments notice, because I had procrastinated for 9 months and wasn't completely "ready" by the time I went into labor. If you forget anything, don't worry. Your husband/boyfriend/family members can bring you things after you give birth.

In short, just bring along anything and everything that you think you will need/want. Good luck, mama!

i just had my daughter 2 1/2 weeks ago, and i went on here to find out what i needed and people told me all this stuff that i didnt use or need. I brought pajamas, and i NEVER used them. i had gotten stitches and found it easier to use the bathroom the first couple days with the hospital gown. Slippers are good, or the thick socks with the grips on the bottom. deoderant, tooth brush, tooth paste, shampoo & conditioner, didnt need my own underwear, bleeding alot, i found myself more comfortable in the stuff that the hospital supplied. Makeup, brush, hair pieces, snacks ( for in between meals, from dinner - breakfast it seems to be forever). something comfy to wear home, make it your maternity clothes or sweats bcuz u will still appear to be 5-6 mo. pregnant. and a going home outfit for the baby. maybe and extra t-shirt too. the hospital put like a paper type shirt on my baby the day she was going home and she threw up all over it, so i put her in an extra onesie that i had brought, a blanket for her too. The blankets they give are sooo thin. Oh dont forget your walet and your insurance info. i think thats it.... congrats!
PS. you could bring magazines and stuff, but i didnt use anything because i was trying to get as much sleep as i could because i was exhausted.

If your hospital has in room DVD players then bring just DVD's otherwise you might want to look for a portable dvd player or other source of entertainment. Cards some clothes for you the baby and whoever will be with you. Some shower stuff and some snack for after the baby is born. Also anything you want your baby to have for the trip home. Depends on how long you will be staying. BUt definitly dont forget some entertainment especially cards or something for the long borning times.

Grab a small amount of cash! Some hospitals have you pre pay for the TV and many have an evening snack and magazine cart that comes around!

don't over pack.. you will have enough stuff to carry out when you leave. use their gowns, but pack one for the ride home, or some loose sweats. slippers, personal hygene probucts in the small travel size, hair brush, tooth brush, something to focus on if you're doing natural child birth (photo, etc to tape to the wall infront of you), a small cd player with your favorite relaxing cd's to help you relax as much as possible, a small teddy bear to squeeze instead of the hand rails, or fathers hands (he has to work), maybe magazines i never felt like reading, and a car seat in car. just remember to take only what you might need. you will take home enough diapers, formula, etc for one or two days, plus flowers, etc. congrats on the new bundle of love in your life.

i had a homebirth, so i'm not totally sure if you can bring this with you.. but i had my guy rub my back with one of those rolly massagers in-between surges and that felt so good. you might have a favorite t-shirt that is a certain favorite color... i used a bright blue bathrobe to help me concentrate and it became sort of my "power color" during birth.
that you will want to have some cold packs prepared for you when you get home... you can take a wet cloth and with witch hazel on it and then freeze it... place it on your bum after birth and it will help SOO much during post-partum. :)
hoping you a beautiful, peaceful birth! <3

comfy clothes to come home in (you'll be wearing hospital gowns while you're there because of bleeding), magazines or something to do, breast pump whether you're nursing or not (trust me, you will be miserable without it) nursing pads, anything special you got for baby, shower stuff and big towels, unless you want to dry off with their washcloth sized towels. hospital will give you enough diapers and stuff for at least a month, so you don't have to worry about that. if you're formula feeding they will give you enough for the first week or so. maybe a couple of pacifiers, they will give you one at least while you're there. blankets for baby, i had a nice big soft pink one and it was way better than the rough cotton ones they'll give you. if you're nursing, lactation consultant will help you and give you stuff like nipple cream.. you may want your own pillows and blankets.
i packed a lot of stuff i didn't need. but it was nice to have it just in case. :)
