is sachin an alltime great or in his era?

He is arguably the second most gifted batsman of any era. The great Don Bradman anointed him as such when he described him as the player who most likely played like he did. A compliment indeed.

He is and was a great batsman and as an Australian I believe him to be a superior batsman than Ricky Ponting, but not much better and Ponting is a far better captain and fielder then Sachin.

Pointing could well prove to be second behind Bradman but not yet, Sachin is still there.

He is probably the greatest Indian batsman of all time.

I think Ricky Ponting will end up a more renowned better player than tendulker for these reasons

1. His test average will be much higher than tendulkers it could be in the mid 60's by the end of his career

2. Injury permitting he will be the highest test run scorer in test history he has already got 9,424 runs in 111 mathes compared to Tendulkars 11,140 in 140 tests, Ponting gets over a 1000 runs a year so when ponting has played 140 matches he will have got over 12,500 runs in test cricket, and this is if ponting plays the same as previous years, he could get even better.

3 Ponting will comfatably have the most test 100's in the history of the game he already has 33, whilst tendulkar has 37, and like i stated earlier tendulkar has played 29 more matches than ponting !!

4 People say Tendulkar is a better ODI player than Ponting but yet Ponting outshined tendulker in the world cup final in 2003 Ponting hit 140, the best knock in world cup final history, while tendulkar bottled another big match as he only got 4, also Ponting's ODI average is very close to Tendulkar, and whilst Ponting is still increasing his average, Tendulkars is arguably going down.

5. Ponting's record as captain of Australia is unbelievable, he has the highest victory rate for tests and ODI in the history of cricket, whilst Tendulkar couldn't cope with the burden of being captain, as shown when he turned the captaincy down for the tour of Australia.

I am actually English so i am not biased in any way, this just my opinion , so to answer your question Yes Tendulkar may be renowned as a all time great , but in my opininon he will not be renowned as a better player than Ricky Ponting.

Sachinis one of the greatest of all time. Any person who say's era doesn't know crap about cricket. This guys has been at the top of cricket since dinosaurs roamed the earth. I'm a kiwi so no bias call from this side but give credit where credits due.
