I see you're still wondering...smiles.

There is no such thing as Minus the Labor. Even a DIY expends energy, and their time is worth something.

As I've noted in at least 2 other similar answers; Electric composes between 17 % and 20 % of the cost of building. Obviously the STAT is in percentages because the dollar amount varies with the size of the house; and the various services included.

It's not like carpeting, where you pay so much per square yard. Other than getting an in-house estimate, you will have to make up a supply list of what you are going to replace, and go to a home center and start writing down prices.

For a standard home, around 3.5 dollars a sq ft. Custom homes can be upwards of 5 dollars a sq ft depending on
lighting control systems and number of lights

GOOD Question. I never heard it put that way having been married to an electrician at one time. Call any electrician in the book and then call what will probably be your most expensive quote and that will be from your local IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) Union. You will get drastically different quotes when it is not rocket science and yet you do want to know you wont have an electrical fire one day so definately hire someone licensed to oversee the job at least.
