it doesnt reallt matter but wireless seems to send and receive data in bursts, where ethernet is more of a constant stream. so if you are into online games like me, a wired connection will result in better ping times.

The limiting factor is almost certainly going to be the speed of your broadband connection, rather than whether you have wireless or not. This is because even the slowest wireless connection tends to be a minimum of 11Mb/s these days, and often more like 40 - many times more than your broadband connection.
The only reason to take speed into account when deciding between wired and wireless is if you will be doing a lot of transferring files between computers in your house - for example if you have a home server and copy lots of video/music files between that and your laptop. Otherwise, just go for whatever's most convenient.

to be honest if you have a password on your internet connection and you live in a ok area then go wireless, it's only if your area is really bad go for wires you shouldn't notice to much of a speed loss. Another option could be to do both, i.e when you want to be wireless then plug in your usb dongle thingy and for work and important things use a cable

Probably about 56Mb or less, definitely faster than your Internet connection unless you use really old equipment (802.11A). The biggest concern is the major security issues. I'd run a cable if possible, especially if you want to buy anything on line.
