Parchment is like a rough paper. . .think of tree bark

Wax paper is smooth and slippery

No! Wax paper is an old school way to wrap food to be put in the fridge or even the freezer. This has been way surpassed by plastic bags and plastic wrap.

Parchment paper on the other hand is used to keep things from sticking and more in various baking tasks.

Wax paper has a smooth side and a rough side. Parchment paper is all a "matte" finish to say not really smooth nor not really rough.

"En Papote" means cooking in parchment paper.

You can't see through parchment. It looks like paper but one side is shiny. You can use it pretty much like you would waxpaper; quilters often use it when they applique.
