if mental stress can lead someone to dress differently..like the wrong clothes and messy hair..is it true?whats your take?

I think it's possible. If the mental stress has led you to being paranoid and schizophrenic you will definitely dress differently. If you see someone in the summer in a winter coat it's pretty much a 100% they have some mental health issues.

But if the mental stress has led to some severe depression I think it's possible to care so little about how you look or what you're wearing that you just go out without even realizing that other people see you.

Yes, I learned both in Psych 101 and in a Social Services class, that if people start dressing strangely or stop grooming, that they may have a mental disorder (or an additional mental disorder).

Not everyone who does the above has a problem, though---some are simply eccentric.

yes it possibly could, stress, depression left untreated
can cause changes in people, :improper dressing,
lack of personal hygiene, lack of interest in previous hobbies,friends etc.

i can see it happen.. so stressed out you just don't care what you look like, or in too much of a hurry to really look at yourself in the mirror.
