You didn't specify freshwater or salt, but I'll give you some that include both (just in case you get hooked and decide to branch out):

A good aquarium book or two is also good - one on general fishkeeping, and one on any species/group you may decide to keep.

Better than any website is going to a pet store that specializes in aquariums (NOTa huge chain like PetSmart or PetCo) and talking to someone who works there. They are passionate and knowledgeable and, if they are honest, will steer you away from junk that doesn't work or you don't need, and toward the things that have proven to work best with their own tanks.

Just put what you want to know in the google or other search engines. Another good resource is to hang around the 'fish store'..i.e. aquarium supplies. And the library has many, many books. You can read them before getting your own. And the best place..go to Borders, have a coffee while you read through their aquarium books before buying one. I have had many aquariums, and loved them. My favorite was a salt water, and truly, it was no trouble at all. I didn't fuss over it, as some people did. It obviously was well-balanced and mostly took care of itself. Good luck. It is a very enjoyable hobby.

there are plenty of good sites out there, and some they listed here already.... but I would HIGHLY recommend "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Freshwater Aquariums" Its about the easiest to understand book on starting out a new aquarium that I have ever come across.

It's been so long since I've been into aquariums, I don't know any internet resources...but the best advice I can mention is to start small to learn the basics, and then expand as you become more adept at it.
