I have a horrible GPA, 2.3, after goofing off at the beginning of my undergrad. I have the rest of the fall semester and spring semester to finish 3 classes, then graduate. If I get As in all 3 classes, how much can my GPA raise? Should I take more classes before I graduate even though they aren't needed for my major?

Unfortunately, you only have 3 classes left to take, but you have probably already taken something like 37 of them, so you can't raise your GPA very far. The way to calculate your GPA if you got A's on all 3 remaining classes would be:

((37x2.3)+(3x4))/40=2.35

Retake the classes you failed which will make your GPA go up big times. I have been there done that when it comes to failing classes, lowering the GPA. You might have to take more of a shift this next semester to retake a class or two to improve your grades-retake classes and if you go from an F to an A it helps your GPA so big! Many schools offer programs which are 6 weeks focusing on different areas from time management to stress. My university offers a program like this and it is offered twice a semester. Go talk with your advisor about maybe being in that program which is free and 1 hour a week one day of your choice, for 6 weeks total(at my school that is how it is). If you get some help with time management or stress or other areas you can do so much better. Also ask your advisor about weekly grade checks which are basically a sheet in which you write in all the teachers, their names and class they teach. At the end of the week you have every teacher sign it in columns including absences and what grade you have so far. That has helped me when I did that since I had a mentor whom I worked with who worked with me on goals. I mean we would say "Okay this week we will get a C in all your classes" and improve to the next couple of weeks to a B and finally to an A. To do good in your next 2 years forget about the previous year or stop putting so much negative emotion out.Think of it as a lesson because in life you need to mess up.I get that you need a good GPA to graduate and so forth but at the same time you need to build yourself up from where you are. Talk to an advisor and see what is your best choice, see if they offer any mentoring programs and if so if you could talk to a mentor or make an appoitment. I hope that helps.

It depends on how many credits/hours you are enrolled currently, and how many you where in before.
That said, I would assume that each semester is roughly equal in credit load, and that A's are equal to 4.0.

If you get 4.0 for this year, plus the 2.3*3=6.9 for the previous 3 years, that gives you a total of 10.9 over 4 years, or a GPA of 2.725 (roughly)

Should you take more classes? Ask an advisor at your school.
