It might sound cliche, but check out Ron Paul. The lobbyists in Washington don't even bother to talk to him. He doesn't take the congressional pension and he returns a portion of his office budget to the national treasury. He doesn't have secret service agents on the campaign trail with him, because he doesn't want to waste money. (He told me that personally.) He raised $5 million in the 3rd quarter of 2007 and he has raised $8.5 million thus far in the 4th quarter. That money is given almost entirely by individuals on his website. The corporate types are terrified of him. That's why the news media virtually ignores him. Check him out on youtube.com; channel RonPaul2008dotcom. His support base grows by the day too, so he'll get the votes. I hope that helps.

That is probably the main reason we need serious reform in our election system. What about all these corporations being multinational in operation and having investors who are from everywhere? And we let them influence our politics on this kind of scale? What we need is just the citizens of the USA deciding who we have in office and the money that can be contributed should be small, so that all can perticipate and not just the rich buying the elections. It just seems to me that the way we do it now runs against what this whole country was founded on, isn't it suppose to be for the good of all the people, truly free, truly open, I think the current system takes away from the average guys freedom.

The more public financing that is provided and the shorter the campaigns the less corporate money will matter. But we are moving in the wrong direction on these, so I don't think anything will change in the near future.

The voters have allowed this to go on. Imagine all the poor people who could benefit from all the money being spent to sell us all these candidates. Corporate america can get what ever they want anyway, no matter who is president. They just send a lobbiest to washington with some perks to pursuade the elected officials to vote for whatever benefits them. Its democracy for sale.

This is the reason why we the people need to work on changing the system, to clean elections, taking money out of the equation. I saw on the Internet that two states have been experimenting with a new system of clean elections, that seem to be working well. This is not well know, as far as I can tell, but it should be. *sm*

Young Lady, I DO REGRET to inform you, that YES, we have deteriorated to the point whereby 'Corporate America' AND / OR "Foreign Interests", have gained control of OUR political process, PERMITTED - ENCOURAGED by OUR Politicians !!!!
Sad, Sad, Sad!!!! At my age (69+), I won't be around to see FINE AMERICANS, such as my children, grandchildren, and those like you, living in the future when NON PUBLIC AMERICAN INTERESTS PREVAIL, solely for those 'in charge' !!!!!
HECK GAL, JUST LOOK AT MEXICO, AND THE LATIN AMERICAN COUNTRIES, NOW !! What you see, is the way this political bunch is taking the USA too !!!!!!!!
Study the histories of France, Ancient Rome, Greece, Egypt, Romania, pre-1933 Germany, Pre-Socialist / Communist China, Japan, Korea, etc.
