B.C. stands for Before Christ, and denotes time before the birth of Jesus. Many anti-religious types now say B.C.E., which stands for Before Common Era. It's for people who would like to deny that western civilization generally measures time by Christian calendars. A.D. stands for Anno Domini, (In the Year of Our Lord Jesus Christ) and measures time after the birth of Jesus. A century is one hundred years.

It depends upon what part of the world you are talking about. Societies along with their justice and educational systems are sperated by more than just time. They are also seperated by distance. In 12th Centuray AD, the Mayan's had a much different system than the French Court.

BCE stands for Before Chistian Era. The 5th century ad is about the year 400 on; the 5th century bce is about 800 years before that.

To remember them I use B.C. is Before Christ and A.D. is after death (Christ's death) that is my "cheaters way " of remembering.
