I'm getting close to forty but... according to my wife I am turning 7 next year... I think the most tragic thing I could lose would be my childlike wonder and fascination with the world around me.

Well some people just don't have anything to look forward to..they lived their life..and don't know what else to do..that why alot of people retire..and then go back to work..because they can't stand just sitting around!...

Yeah but you are right..some people just don't know how to have fun!

I wouldn't especially find it flattering if someone said I was turning 7 when I am middleaged (lol). I think some people don't have much wonder or are much fascinated with the world in their childhood years to start out with and I think the adults in their lives stamp alot of it out and so then they lose it. I even believe some are actually born with the trait of more wonder, I seem to be. There have been some times in my life when I was just in awe of something and someone else tried to squash my enthusiasm and wonder. Shame on them but they can't squash my spirit and childlike wonder, it is with me til the end. I have also had very tough experiences that someone else would say I'd get it beat out of me but I tell you what, on any clear night I look up at the stars and moon in the sky and I'm amazed; I look at nature, a Christmas tree, the gracious gifts others give me and I just have that awe!

I'm older than you by far and was always active, fun loving and fun to be around, played jokes, creative, fascinated by people, and the life of the party. Then I fell and had a bilateral subderal hemotoma surgery, and I am grateful that it wasn't worse. I am able to write, but confused, short term memory, difficulty in speaking, and sleep like I was Rip Van Winkle. I think of those times, but I need to be where I am today. It's not as bad as you think. Listen, you're a young man still, so don't project such thoughts. Keep good thoughts!

I agree,
and so will your wife when she thinks about it.
It is probably what attracted her to you and it is probably what keeps life interesting.
So go on over and give her a big hug and your best smile.

as for why some people lose their zest for life?
Their cup will always look 1/2 full.

Why do we loose the zest for life? Divorce, bankruptcies, downsizing , up sizing, crime, punishment, no money, too much money, poor health. Would you like to add a few you can think of?

Good for you - it's hard as hell to maintain that because life has a way of kicking the zest right out of you.

It's good you still have your zest. I'm barely 19 and I feel like I already lost it.

Hmm...you can be a strong mature man - yet a child inside forever!
She'd soon complain if you turned into a boring miserable old fart! lol

As long as you are there for her - then you'll be fine and hopefully your fun element will rub off on her!

Maybe she's just tired and needs a break / rest?

WHISK HER OFF ON HOLIDAY AND DO SOMETHING FUN TOGETHER!

I really don't know. Sometimes I have the zest, and sometimes I don't. It just depends a lot on my mood
