I don't think it was cod liver oil, GW-don't know what the homoc----- word is? nothing else taste like it these days. It wasn't Poly-Vi-Sol. I took this stuff in 1952.

In post-war Britain there were four things that were issued cheaply by the government.
Large white & blue tins of National Dried Milk.
Then in bottles just like camp coffee were the bitter tasing orange concentrate and cod liver oil.
And there was a tin of malt extract a bit like treacle.
Was it any wonder we were the slim generation.

Not a drug - sounds like concentrated orange juice to me. It did have a weird taste. I think it was free - provided by the NHS, I know my mother got it from the children's clinic. I suspect the taste came from the addition of fish oil.
It was very thick and came in a medicine bottle with a sky-blue cap.

Can't help you there, brought up in the Australian bush. But I have a faint memory of some yellow syrup.

Don't know the name, but I too had the dubious pleasure of gagging down a few tablespoons per sitting. Think it was where "if it tastes terrible -- it's good for you" idea popped into mind.

It was a liquid vitamin but not sure what it was called and I thought it tasted absolutely vile.

Liquid vitamin supplement. Made by Squibb. That's as much as I can remember. I hated those things.
