Let's be fair. Blackwater employees were probably alcoholic jerks who called themselves mercenaries. (Been there in my younger days with a jerk) It is not fair to judge the acts of all by the acts of some ignorant self proclaimed "mercanaries".

It is my understanding the the Blackwater benefits package is outstanding. They do an important service and get paid well for it. The Military men and women who's roll is more important, in my opinion, need to be paid more then what they are getting. They make less then teachers.

blackwater claims that a a big portion of the cost is training
the fact is most of the training of their employees was paid for by our armed services. the amount that we have had to spend on non bid contracts is ridiculous. there is no argument for the fact that our president put us in a position that we were not prepared for. contractors are now a necessity because this administration has abused our armed services and stretched our resources beyond their capabilities. all contractors should be held accountable just as any government employee is. if our service men and women are held accountable for their actions then blackwater and any other contractor should be for theirs. if the sovereign Iraqi government that we set up does not have jurisdiction then this administration must see that we prosecute those who fail in their duties.

Yes. Once a year we received a written estimate totaling our pay coupled with benefits. As an E-1 or 2, mine was about $18k that year. I got out of the Air Force as an E-4 and did a short stint in the Reserve as an E-5.

Private contractors are not a ton of drunken ex soldiers as you think. Most of them are highly skilled ex special forces soldiers. They do a better job than most ground forces do protecting people. I met a person who works for a private contractor he was a SERE school instructor and later a marine scout sniper. He recently went back to Iraq. He doesn't work for blackwater.

The fact is the military does not want to provide security for
the diplomats and is happy to have private contractors do
that work.
Of course, the blamebushbots don't know or care about this
fact.
Those that are always looking for a free handout seem to be
the ones shouting the loudest!
God bless our troops, America, and GWB!

LOL military benefits per year don't add up to Blackwater weekly salaries.
Do you think Blackwater mercs don't have benefits as well?

True, and if BW are independent contractors, as I have heard, whack 35% right off the top of that 100k figure.

from the people I know that were in the military compared to what I've heard them making... it's still not even close, average enlisted man vs. average contractor...

Blackwater is mostly made up of ex-military special forces. Seems they have taken their military training and made a good living for themselves as body guards for VIP's.
Good for them.

Get real.
blackwater is getting $445,000 a mercenary.
Just how much do you think military benefits are worth?
And military personnel aren't given blanket immunity when they murder innocent civilians.
Obviously you have never served in the US military.
