Final Fantasy XII is a great game. I love the new battle system, the Hunt sidequests, and the story is quite unique for a FF game. It's less romantic, and more political.
If you liked FFX, you'll probably like FFX-2. The story is a bit weak, but the gameplay is awesome. I love the dresspheres, it was an interesting and unique way to change character class.
I adore Star Ocean - Till the End of Time. It is an action RPG with a great battle system. I also really like the story in the game. It's great fun.

I've played X, X2, XII, and Star Ocean.
X and X2 are traditional RPG's, exactly what you'd expect from a final fantasy game. I always thought those were the best it could get. However, XII is the best final fantasy bar none. I know many people like X or VII and have an emotional attachment to the games, I understand that. XII has a superior more adult-oriented storyline, although the characters are less memorable. The battle system is the main change, with XII being real time. This time, you see your enemies on screen and if you want to battle, just run up and start hacking away. If you're low on health, stay away from the enemies. The environments and graphics are the best any game on the PS2 is going to get as well. So yes, I do think FFXII is better than X or X2.
X2 is just FFX with the new dress sphere system. Each character can change class at will during or outside of battle. It's fun to use but gets repetitive. The fact that the world is exactly the FFX world gets a bit dull, and the story isn't that great. It's not a bad game, but it's not as magical as X was for me, and definitely not as good as XII.
Star Ocean is also a great game with a trippy storyline. It's basically the same thing as FFXII, except when you enter combat, you go to a mini-battle ground. All battles are still fought in real-time, so the feel is still there. The graphics and locations are more cartoony, much less realistic than XII tries to be, and the game isn't as flashy as the Final Fantasy games. Overall, it's still a pretty awesome game, and it's sure to take a lot of your time if you're committed to beating it.
All four of these games were great, and I'd definitely recommend XII, it's definitely NOT boring.

Eh....every basically said everything. ^^

FFX-2**
Even though i never finished it (i rented it a at gamefly), it was a superb game, really. Its a lot more emotional than FFX, but it continues the story left off from the last game. I'd say its a lot better than its predecessor. And the overall game mechanics have improved. (For example: Dress Spheres) ^^ There are a lot of cutscenes, some are really cute, and can relieve some stress/tension. (especially after you (Yuna) dress up as a moogle and hand out balloons) xD
Boss battles can be pretty challenging too, but once you beat them (especially if it took you more than one try) you will feel extremely accomplished! ^^
Star Ocean: Till the End of Time**
Another goodie i never got to finish.(rented from gamefly)
Its somewhat boring in the beginning, and can be a little frustrating. But it has a really good storyline and interesting characters....meh, i cant really say much about it cause i haven't played it in such a long time... :(
(and i was stupid enough to delete the data on my memorycard
, of both FFX-2 and Star Ocean, so i'll have to play them over again.) =____=;;
FFXII**
SDakhajhdashjagdj!
FFXII is not boring at all. Its extremely fun; even straight from the beginning. It focuses more on political stuff, and royalty. ;D
The story is very nice and you find out a lot of "hidden" things that tie into the story as you go along. ^^
Now unlike the previous FFs, FFXII has a different "turn-based" system. Its a little confusing at first, but its really easy once you get the hang of it. And this game is pretty tough. Mostly because you have to level on you're on time.(Instead of leveling gradually with the story..like in previous FFs). And some people have the problem of being "under leveled", which can lead to some bad situations..especially with Boss battles. Im currently training to go into the Henne Mines...im around lvl 21-22 but im going to lvl to around 30-something just to be safe. ^^ (cause i barely scraped by the last time) xD
There are also side quest-like things you can do for some extra cash...because the only money you get is from random pots or loot you get from monsters. :P
Anyway....the characters in the game are really lovable, and actually have decent roles in the story. ;3
So overall, i suggest you buy the game...(if you want a good challenge) ;D

FF X2 is good for renting... The game is kinda long, so if you wanna buy it feel free. It's pretty good as far as storylines go... There's a decent amout of unlockables and a New Game+ mode. So you might wanna just buy it.
Star Ocean is great. At times a bit confusing and a pain, but the storyline and the graphics are really good. It's also got a ton of unlockable stuff. It'll keep you super busy if you're a serious gamer. I'd totally say "BUY IT NOW!!!" But it's not my money.

Story is way better than X and X-2. It's about political intrigue and actually saving the world, rather than the main character's love story, and "oh hey, I guess we can save the world at the same time we save my love" as an afterthought. It's also more of a group effort in the story.
Combat's a bit slower than X, but faster than X-2, as it's based very closely on FFXI's combat system, which is a pretty typical MMO setup. You have three characters in battle at a time, but you normally only control one. You can give specific commands for the other two, but in general, you don't. Instead, you let the computer control them, and it makes there actions based on Gambits: actions you set up for specific conditions. You basically build a list for each character of (by the end of the character's development) 12 situations, a specific action to take in response to the situation, and rank them in priority. If you know any programming, it just a big "If...Then...Else If" statement, but it's pretty cool, since it's a programmable, albeit simplistic, AI system.
It's an extremely long game. About 50 hours for the main story, and another 50-70 hours for the sidequests that it doesn't even try to hide from you.

very last myth is a media franchise created by ability of Hironobu Sakaguchi, and is developed and owned by ability of sq. Enix (previously Squaresoft). The franchise centers on a chain of console function-playing video games (RPGs), yet incorporates action images, anime, revealed media, and different merchandise. The sequence began in 1987 as a on line recreation developed to shop sq. from financial ruin; the game turned right into a fulfillment and spawned sequels. The on line recreation sequence has for the reason that branched into different genres and platforms, including tactical RPGs, portable video games, a extremely multiplayer on line function-playing recreation, and video games for cellphones. The sequence is likewise different from American to Japenese i imagine 4 is completely think to be 3 and three is 4 yet 3 had never been released out of japan for extraordinarily sometime,so individuals were given 4 yet replaced it to three so human beings would not be offended with the lacking chain. regardless of the actual undeniable reality that no longer most of the FF's have a connection to at least one yet another. in an attempt to me it did not make any massive difference.
