Who isn't? But there is a lot of R&B, Blues, and Pop in there. Phyllis Hyman is the soul singer that I think of, but I would have put Etta James first, because she was my first fave. Aretha Franklin? You can't make me decide this one tonight.

I'd have to say Aretha is &
I'd like to tie her w/ Tina because she has soul w/ a rock n roll edge to it.
But one lady that definitely had soul was Phyllis Hyman, I absolutely love her voice. It's a shame she's gone; she was a talented singer & classy as well. When she sang you could hear what she was feeling in her soul.

Etta James, at least for me...............
At last my love has come along
Sunday kind of Love
I just wanna make love to you
I've been lovin you to long
..............those are some beautiful songs, and I love Aretha and Gladys.........but Etta brings a tear to my eye and touches my soul every time I hear her belt out a tune! She's been under-rated. I think her voice is powerful! as powerful as Aretha's.

I would add Diana Krall, Julie London, Peggy Lee and Dinah Washington to your list. And I would vote Dinah Washington.
