Celibacy in marriage is a completely and totally personal decision between the husband and wife. When enough loyalty is held within the relationship, I suppose you could pull something this 'extreme' off. It's just something a bit unheard of in a society that is more sex-driven than anything.

If it works for the couple and they've already agreed to that condition from the beginning, no problem. However, if it were to come up after the fact, I think there would be a huge problem. It also depends on the reasons. If it's for medical reasons, it's more understandable. Also, does celibacy mean NO SEX whatsoever? So not even masturbation is possible???? I think someone would go batty!!!!!! *LOL*

Marriage is not about celibacy.

Marriage was formed by God .. for people to have sex .. and reproduce.

Celibacy .. would have no need for marriage. However - some people want different things .. for different reasons .. for example .. marriage for business purposes only - thus, celebacy.

To each, their own.

Well. When people take the vows and decide to get married, celibacy is a given. Or should be. Unless they go the unconventional route and decide on an open marriage. Celibacy is what marriage is all about. That is what the committment is based on. "forsaking all others" Right?

Well, it is unusual to associate marriage with celibacy, but if both parties are OK with that and are otherwise committed to each other then why not.

Stupid.

I know a couple that she decided on celibacy because she believed that if you can't be 'fruitful & multiply' (she found out she couldn't conceive), then sex would be wrong. He stayed faithful but her decision was hard on him.

I believe celibacy if not married; not when married.

I think it's a strange concept, that's for sure. Do you mean the failure to have sex due to lack of desire or the planned celibacy of both partners for some strange and abstract higher purpose>? I'm one of those strange people who actually enjoy sex and wish I had more of it. So, I think it's weird weird weird to be honest with you.

It sucks big time.

I have not had conjugal bliss with my wife since November 18, 1999.

i feel that a significate part of my relationship with my wife is missing, as sex is more than 2 minutes, 52 secinds of squishing noises. It is a way to connect on an emotional and spiritual level.

Although I respect her decision not to have sex, by no means should it be construed that i agree to those reasons, as they are specious beyond belief.

There's more of it out there than we probably imagine. In my marriage we cannot have sexual relations due to chronic medical problems. But, I know of at least one other marriage where the couple have simply stopped having sex. Neither needs it or wants it - and, no, neither is cheating. They have been married for over 30 years and have three adult children.

Marriage is about friendship, trust, and commitment. Sex is great, but it isn't essential.

I know couples that have not had sex in a long time. One person is always looking for sex and the other is ignorant of the fact. If you wan tto be celibate give the other the decency of a divorce or carte blanch permission.

I think it is a stupid idea.
