That's for you if/when you as the "asker" pick a Best Answer to your question. You use the 5 star rating to "rate" the answer you pick. 5 means you really really like the answer and 1 is you like it, but not that much. It's a personal choice really. I always give the answer I pick 5 stars, because why would I give someone less then 5 if I picked them?? I guess you'd use lower numbers if you only had a few choices for answers.

The stars are worth nothing, its up to you (as the rater) whether to give between 1 and 5 stars, 1 being ok but not very informative to 5 being great answer and very informative.

The thumbs up are for the answerer and if choosen as best answer the answerer gets the 10pts plus bonuses if they have thumbs up with their answer.

edit: hmmm if you are talking about the 'interesting' question stars, they are worth nothing either.... it is the thumbs up that gain extra points (and that would only be if you got best answer) eg: 1 thumb up - 1pt, 2 thumbs up - 2pts etc, etc...... not entirely sure how many points you can go up to before they stop giving points however off the top of my head I think it is 50 thumbs 50pts plus best answer = 60 altogether.
I found this also its the points system to y/a answers http://nz.answers.yahoo.com/info/scoring_system.php

hope this helped.

i think two points because if the voter rate you as best answer and selected a 5 star..that will give you extra 10 points..that's why every star's 2 points

You don't get any points for getting stars or giving them. It's just a nice gesture.
