This question is not to offend anyone, but I want to ask some very serious questions about the future of India and Indians.
The British left the country more than 60 years ago, but this country still don't have a truly world class city. About 79.9% people are living on less than 2$ per day per person. 47% children born in India are malnourished, and this figure is even worse than the sub saharan African countries.
Almost the whole country is a war zone. Terrorists, Naxalities, ULFAs and other N-E terror outfits are targeting the innocent citizins and they can target everywhere.
Still 60% of Indians don't have sanitation facilities.
More than half of the country is without electricity connections (and even those who have connections are not getting 24 hour supply).
Farmers still commit suicides, people still need to learn THE foreign language to get jobs as in the British period.
So I want to ask what do the Indians hope for the future?
Will India exist as a one united country?

This should be done, that should be done. Don't you people think that 60 years is a too long time to do this and that.
Just look at those countries which were behind India at the time of Independence, like South Korea, Israel, Japan and Germany(they got devasted in WW2), and neighboring China. Even in South Asia Sri Lanka and Bhutan have higher per capita incomes.
And if population is a boon and 54% people in India are below 35, then why are the countries with very low populations are so highly developed like Iceland(300,000), Norway(5.4m), New Zealand(3.5m), Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, Australia etc.
INFACT INDIA HAS BEEN SURPASSED BY MANY COUNTRIES WHICH WERE BEHIND HER, BUT INDIA HAS NOT SURPASSED ANY COUNTRY FROM WHICH SHE WAS BEHIND.
All these are excuses that the political leaders of India are corrupt. Afterall they are also from you people. Everybody in India will take bribe or something like that if given a chance. People and politicians are all alike. THERE IS NO HOPE.

it is not a failed state.

it has made rapid progress in all front.

what has failed is government. people should be made to know that ther is no substitute for hard work.

in india most people believe in mythology and feel that god will help them with a boon, it needs to be understood that hard work has no substitute.

religion has to play important role in overall improvement.

one nation one dharma

First and foremost, I defenetly not an Indian.

But as per this question, I really want to give some opinion.

For me, Indian is not a failed state. Every country have it own strenght and weakness. The best example is Holland, Brunei or Singapore. There are just a small country but they develop rapidly and well known by other nation.

India for me is the best rapid growing for IT (Information Technology) in terms of the used of computer technology. India even placed computer outside of schools building so the kids can give them a play. I don't even know if is there any country that can do it like India.

The only problem with India is, everything that you want to do must be follow with money. Yes.. corruption is the major problem at India. This is why all of India progress in like economy, politic and etc is not as much as other country due to most of them practiced corruption. If India is so serious to tackle corruption, I can guarantee that India will become one of most progress country in the world.

Because of the corruption, it lead to major differences between rich and poor. The rich become richer, the poor become worst. The economy become unstable due to not enough money been spend inside their own country and most citizen will go abroad to work if they have the knowledge or skills rather than working in their own country. The politic become unstable due to the best person who can give more money will likely be the winner, maybe?

Anyhow, India is one of my "dream place" in which one day I would like to visit Taj Mahal.

Check your figures about displaced Indians again. These kinds of arguments don't work in case of India. In a country, with 2-3 percent floating population at any point of time ,the displacement is not a big issue either. Yes,the population is really big and there is a no serious shortage of resources but a mismatch between them.India is an emerging economic Giant in the world,as perceived by most of the developed nations. Can anybody call such a country a failed state?Watch out to witness the spectacle.

I wouldn't answer your question but ask few questions to you and then correct you on few things:

1. Do you know the number of Television sets in India before 10 years and today?
2. Do you know the number of telephone connections in India before 10 years and today?
3. Do you know the number of flights in India before 10 years and today?
4. Do you know the average monthly income of Indians before 10 years and today?
5. Do you know the number of ATMs in India before 5 years and today?
6. Do you know the Dollar rates before 10 months and today?

As India is developing problems are increasing and that is normal for any developing country. There are problems in India and are reducing. That does not mean that India is failed state. Indians are learning foreign language. What foreign language? English? For your information English is adopted as International Language by UN. Also when we want to earn business from foreign countries we have to learn there langauge. To me that seems to be a good thing.

You talk about $2 per day probably now it is $2.5 with dollar rates but what is there daily expense? You have to think about earnings and expense both.

On top of everything we still have values, relations, customs and love for each other. India is not a failed state but a developing country and like any other developing country India has its own problems and efforts are being made to correct them. God bless.

Dear Friend - you r looking at India with certain ill informed & preconcieved notions. While some of ur stats has substance please mention any country which has made all round progress in the last 10 years saddling 1.26 billion people !
If India was failed state then the economy would have gone for a nose dive, education levels would have fallen & there would not have been agricultural self sufficiency. Problems r there aplenty - but the government is doing its best to address everyone of them.

No, who are us to declare a country 'a failed state' when most of us do not even know how many states does India have, its detailed data & records so far ? It is left for great staticians & academicians of international acclaim to do so. This thing cannot be decided in 5 minutes in one stroke. India is a great country , after all to absorb so many small & some big shocks very easily. Only small nations cannot withstand them. India has a formidable army, deep rooted democracy & absence of any massive external invasion. These three things decide with certainty that there is no worriable danger to her anywhere. Only bogus knowledge based peope try to ring alarm bells on small things to come in newsunnecessarily.
What is your definition of a failed or successful state ?

Along with dramatic progress in many fields, there are several dark areas in India. The picture you have painted is exactly what many foreigners see on their first exposure to India but revise it later. For a democratic country of India's size and vast diversity,60 years is not along period at all.Even if we are able to tackle the things you mention in say 100 years,it would be creditable as democracies are slow to work.Small countries don't have such problems as we face here.By the way, failed state is a strong word for India, when western countries are hesitant to use it even for Pakistan. All the same,I join you in your feelings of anger and disappointment in not achieving goals for which we have all the inputs and resources.

Jigyaasu ji
U R perfectly correct on facts. The dispassionate diagnosis of our failure is --that no selfless & patriotic political leadership has emerged so far. By far the worst ever is the present Congress Govt @ the Centre.
Prudent citizens R frustrated , disillusioned & disinterested & crooks R super active, ruling the roost & thriving.
India's only hope is --a total & irrevocable expulsion / annihilation of Congress & the socalled dynasty ruling it .

Your analogy and comparisons are ,to say the least, odious.Your statistics and figures are totally skewed. In spite of your thoughts and wishes,India is emerging as a superpower. And
the Indians, one and all,are proud of our nation despite its many shortcomings. With all the diversity in many areas the people are like a
well knit family. We may have our differences,
squabbles, tiffs etc.but should anyone dare to lift a finger against us in aggression,we shall rise like a colossus and stamp him out.Never
ever mistake our mild nature for trepidation.

i hope so!but noting can be said since the "bad polities"is happening in India which eats up all the money that may help India but they do not care about the poor people which need the money in which they will not be the streets and have food to eat.

all the bad staff going on in India is because of those greedy people who do not care about their country and care about their future.
