MLB collectively earned over $6 BILLION this past season.
Now, I don't really care where that money goes, but my enjoyment of baseball comes from watching the players play and not from watching the owners own. So if the players pull in a huge cut of that revenue, fine by me. The owners are still doing quite well -- zero bankruptcies, and teams when sold set new records frequently. And MLB is ALMOST out of teams for which to extort a new ballpark from various municipalities.
And total league player payroll, as a percentage of revenue, has been trending BELOW historical averages. So what are the owners doing with all that extra money?
In recent years, the Marlins' take from revenue sharing has been greater than the total player payroll. Think Jeff Loria gives a damn what ARod signs for? He's rolling in clover.

Yes I think so. I live in the Essex County (Don't feel safe saying where I live but it's really near from Salem) and it's really safe here. No crimes or anything. Also my mom who works at Children's Hospital earns around $61 an hour as a nurse. Well she has the experience but I still believe salaries are higher up here. So yeah. Hope it helped. However, houses in here are really expensive. No clue why but I'm guessing because it's a nice place?

Theyve been to high. Look at hockey. The best players in the league get paid maybe what, 5, 6 million a year. Where it should be. What makes athletes so special? Because, they travel away from there families? What about our troops then? How come they don't get paid big. LOWER THE SALARIES!!
I mean, shucks, id be happy with 100 bucks.

This is how messed up the situation is.
275 million dollars can buy EVERYONE IN AMERICA a cup of coffee. (about 80 cents each)
If you take the 275,000,000 dollars and invest it at 5 %, THE INTEREST ALONE will allow for a middle class lifestyle for about 300 families (about $45,000/year for each family) forever.
It is enough buy over 1000 brand new homes (at 250,000 each) with CASH.
It would put over 3000 kids through college (about 80,000 each).
He could by abandoned, dilapidated NY City buildings, raze them, and make them into parkland, shelters, or schools.
He could pay the salary of over 5000 experienced teachers for a year.
I would LOVE to know what he plans on actually doing with all that money.

yes salaries are waaaay too high. if it were me, i'd be happy making 5 million a year to work for 3 hrs a day for 6ix months. nevermind 28 million a year. when the hell is it enough?? i dont think these people appreciate the money they make because they've never had to work 40hrs a week for 7 bucks an hour to barely make ends meet. it's unfortunate.

No they are not to high. If I was a player and the team and MLB are making all this money I would want my fair share of it. The players only make it because teams can afford it. If people think that they get paid too much stop supporting it. Dont go to games dont buy merchandise. Cops and teachers the real heros dont make that kinda money because what they do doesnt make that kind of money. I dont know why you people say these kinds of things it simple why teachers and others alike dont make that kind of money.

The man catches a ball, and hits one with a stick! What in the world does he do to earn that kind of money?!?!?!
Personally, baseball players are the most overpaid athletes in the professional relm. Pitchers tear up their shoulders due to throwing pitches - they deserve some sort of money. The rest of the players on the field don't deserve anything over 10 million dollars over 10 years. . .
Football players destroy their bodies. I think they do deserve a bit higher money due to this. Most all of the football players that retire have HUGE medical bills due to their playing days - it all comes back to haunt them later in life. They deserve compensation for putting their bodies on the line for our entertainment. But A-Rod? He stands a third, catches a ball IF it is hit in his general direction, and hits a ball. Yes - he has talent. I will not argue that. But so much that he is making MORE than Brett Farve - a man that is more valuable to his team, and considered one of the "greats" to play the game?
Greedy is all I can say. And Major League Baseball is doing it to themselves all because they won't implement a salary cap. I am waiting for MLB to be bankrupt eventually. Someone better than A-Rod is going to come along, and they are going to want more money. Where does it end??????

No, they are not getting to high, they've BEEN to high. I love watching ball, but millions of dollars is to much. Career earnings should be at tops $20 million. That is plenty to live off in a lifetime. I'd happily take $2 Mil.

How about us Twins fans?
Don't get too down - although Yankees Lite won this year, remember they beat a team in the Series who built through its farm system. And last year the Cardinals won it all...
So all is not lost for the little guys. But please say hello to Johan when he arrives at Shea next year.

yeah it is getting rediculous. but there are teams out there that can hang without the huge bankroll. the rockies dont come from a huge market. they are in the bottom 3rd of the teams in terms of payroll and they made it to the series. just 1 example
