....That our current health care system is a benefit/service for Americans and not just a HUGE money making scam...I mean business? Can you honestly say that hospitals are charging people fairly? Do you really think that all the charges on your medical bills are only for the services you received and that your not being charged for every pillow case, sponge, Q-tip, light bulb or every time a nurse/doctor comes in your room.....???? Did you know emergency rooms charge you just for sitting in the waiting room?? Is it better to wait to see a doctor that will not cost you anything .... or waiting to die, because you can't afford to see a doctor????....Something has to change.

For those using the excuses of malpractice insurance, doctors expenses for school, flipping the bill for those who can't pay...well I ask you...Do you not think these things will be nonexistent if we had free health care....
I mean who is really going to sue if they are getting free health care, unless someone was killed? Also the doctors will most likely get paid more, because they will actually get money for everyone they see...I don't know, I'm just trying to use common sense, because health care should be a right for all Americans, not a business.

Brad456...I agree there are cures for just about anything...and we are shooting ourselves in the foot, because I would bet my house, family, everything that most, if not all cures can be found in the rainforests, herbs, natural treatments and excercise...and again...I'm using common sense, but I believe that most people would be less depressed about life, if they don't have the medical bills and would be willing to take care of themselves more...

I say with a "straight face" and "clear conscience" that the current health care system is HUGE money making scam.
that being said most people are not willing to take responsibility for their health. there is a cure for every disease out there. but drug companies can not make money selling herbs, or vitamins, or common household items.
have you ever tried to convince someone to change their diet to improve their health. its like asking them to change their religion, its that hard.
people are also very impatient, they want a cure now, but it took them many years to create a disease, but that cure must work in 2 minutes.
they are willing to take expensive pills for the rest of their lives, but refuse to make any changes in their lifestyle to improve their health.
this is most frustrating when its someone you love.
with the internet we should all get together and collect information about all the natural cures that already exist.
did you know that there are 15 different cures for cancer? why have scientist been doing research for 50 years to find a cure that we already have.
because all the cures are inexpensive and they can not make any money off it.
nothing makes me angrier than to see another TV commercial with a child dieing of cancer, and them asking for donations for a disease that already has 15 different cures for it.
that kid is put through torturous methods proven to be ineffective for nothing and will be dead within a few years. for what? so some medical people get money to spend.
and the medical mafia destroys any persons or business that attempt to get the message out to the public.

The expenses of running a hospital are probably some of the highest in the country. Although the charges seem to be crazy a person must take into consideration what the cost entails. An aspirin probably cost about 1/2 cents each but by the time the hospital orders the aspirin, receives it, stocks it, accounts for it, pays a nurse to take it to you along with the glass of water; the cost has probably gone up to $14. to $20. This applies to every thing else you are charged for in the hospital. Now, to make this even worse, you also have to help cover the cost of those people coming into the hospital that do not pay their own bills; the illegal aliens, those who can not afford insurance or medical care, and those who just do not pay their bills. What bothers me, and I can find no justification for it, doctor stops by the new born room, looks at the new born babies, and then charges the mothers for checking up on them.
When people argue against a national health plan they are arguing for the current mess. The veto by Bush for the Children’s health program brought a lot of arguments but for once I had to side with Bush. The plan included providing free medical health care to illegal aliens. Clinton has been trying to get her plan passed for 15 years but can not get any backing from democrats or republicans. She will not get any more help on it if elected president but she will get more special interest contributions. There is no easy answer and until we have a totally independent review and a plan developed without special interest group involvement we will never have a national health plan.

I hardly know what to say to that diatribe. Have you met Smiley? I just answered two of her questions and I think you'd get along just fine. I wonder if you might be more comfortable living in a society elsewhere on the earth that may be a bit more traditional? I believe there are still some less industrialized places left, where gender roles are still, by and large, more like the 1900s. Understand I don't necessarily disagree with your feelings about the bedroom being so far into the ballroom. I do however fear for your ultimate sanity if you choose to become so much of a misanthrope that you lock yourself away, ala Scrooge. Seems a change of abode might be your best option. It's quiet in the north country areas, and in the midwest. If you are in a city.. get thee to a country spot, young man :) Ever consider setting up a blog page? If you are going to write stream of consciousness posts, you might as well do so where more people may notice you.

To answer your question = No
Of course we are being over charged for everything that has to do with health care.
I know a lot Republicans cry that it's just because of the malpractice insurance.
I'm not buying that.
Insurance company's are in business to make money.
covering medical bills does not make them money.
Doctors / hospitals
are also in business to make money.
and we all know that money is more important then people.

Honestly, it's a travesty. When people and businesses can't afford insurance or care while insurance companies get rich, it's criminal.
If they are "for profit", they don't give a damn about you unless you can pay. Is this what we want? Do you really want to go broke if you get sick? The good news, you are healed (maybe), the bad news, you get to live under a bridge.
And yes, the whole lawyer scam contributes to the mess. They jump on any opportunity without shame, it's disgusting.

anyone who has insurance and has looked at their EOB has seen what a doctor or hospital has charged and what the insurance will actually pay. the doctors and hospital negotiate with insurance companies set rates and then if you don't have insurance you are charged more. i use a bi-pap machine the mask (a cheap plastic mask that last maybe 6 months) is listed as being $865.00 on my EOB my insurance actually pays $430.00 how can they charge $865.00 for a mask and then actually agree to be paid just $430.00? obviously what they charge has nothing to do with real cost. i have bought the same mask on the Internet for $45.00 plus shipping. this is just an example of why our health care system needs immediate attention.

Yes things could be better, but the U.S. has the best health care in the world. While the cost may be high, it's a free market. People are willing to pay a lot for their health. Doctor's make what they do because of the enormous cost of their education. They often owe $500,000 in student loans by the time they graduate. Once they start their practice, the cost of their malpractice insurance is insanely high. A universal health care system for everyone would mean longer waits to see a doctor, poorer health care, and taxes would be increased to handle the costs.

D.C. got it pretty much right. The biggest problem we have in our health care system is lawyers who can get tens of millions of dollars over a sniffle.
Hospitals pay out billions of dollars annually to maintain malpractice insurance and billions more to care for illegal who use emergency rooms for cough & cold treatments because they don't have to pay.
Someone has to pay. Socialized medicine only serves to spread the pain out over a greater surface, it doesn't fix the hurt!

It is a money making scam. If you get sick, the Insurance Company does not want to pay medical costs.
The Health Care System should be overhauled from top to bottom. All American Citizens should be covered, and there should be an oversight committee that ensures that Insurance Companies are working on the up and up, and that they are not denying coverage to anyone, regardless of their health status.
