Our system isn't so great. I can't figure out why so many people are so against some form of socialized medicine. It's like they don't think. With the huge number of Americans without any insurance AT ALL, isn't something better than nothing?

I've seen the cost of insurance spiral so badly out of control that the coverage most smaller business cannot afford to cover all their employees and the coverage gets worse from year to year. It's almost worth not even having given the cost, you'd be better off spending the money on the lottery of Vegas because it really is a betting situation....you are betting you're going to get sick and the insurance companies are betting you won't!

What is the benefit of a great health care system if MOST CAN'T AFFORD IT???? Is it really worth losing your house and retirement (or not getting ANY care at all) if you have the bad fortune to get ill or have an accident just to say, "At least we don't have socialized medicine". Are you freakin' kidding me? All those hours of listening to Fox and rich Republicans (who are NOT your friends, BTW) done fried up your brains! (....with thanks to Basic Instinct....I love that quote)

Because the US thinks that doctors will not be able to charge for every little thing they can think of and won't become super freakin rich off someones pain and agony.... Our system is sh*t...and is only breaking up families and causing too many people to go bankrupt.....Health care should be a natural born right for any American citizen and not a f**king business that all the F**king corporations who run hospitals get f**king rich because "we the sick" can not argue cost for medical services. Anyone who thinks this system works, should have to walk a mother f**king year in my shoes....or any hardworking, tax paying, middle class family trying to make it through life....It's not a fair and just system and other countries have actually realized what we have yet to understand in this country.

Because only American citizens have fallen for the lies. When it comes to the care and well-being of all humanity the word "profit" has a great deal to do with why so many are uncared for and unwell. Thankfully, there are much more humane cultures in the world...and even at that we need to keep up the fight to keep the profit-mongers from our doors!

Their socialist medical scenario has metastasized into a system that cannot be saved without top down re-organization of the entire government.

Besides...the truly wealthy in even the most socialist countries still get their own private doctors...and they're the ones you need to convince to change things.

They do want it but cannot afford it especially since their governments rob them blind. I had to talk till I was blue in the face to my european friend the other day to get accoss to her that in the USA people can get MRIs in less than one month. "How is that possible since only Unversities and hospitals have such machines?" she asked. I had to explain that here in the USA we have imaging centers independent of hospitals and universities and we often have many of them in just one county.
I am Naturalized USA citizen and have just returned from a visit to Europe.

I can't speak for France or the UK - but here in the Northeast there are numerous Canadians who enter the United States for medical care - why is that?

Their social elite do. When ever they have a serious problem they seem to find it fit to fly over here for our hospitals. Now why do their rich not want the care that everyone else has?

Because they don't have the medical R&D smarts to pull it off! Plus they are living in socialist never, neverland and don't want to rock the boat. Besides, the elite just come to the US if they have a real medical situation!
