An organization that provides and distributes birth control for free AND teaches all the reasons why it is a good idea.

Birth control can
prevent unwanted births;
reduce the need for increasing food production or imports from year to year;
reduce some diseases because some methods (condoms) reduce the transfer of "bodily fluids";
reduce the burden of large populations on governments with low resources: water; schools; public utilities including transit; living subsidies to assist survival;
reduce the tendencies for poor governments to fight each other over fertile land and water;
aggressive policies and choices to limit children can free up the mind and muscle power of many women.

One good effect of lessening populations in need is that less food aid is required; since food aid is often diverted by corrupt governments, less food will be lost to dishonest thieves in government. Of course, this last benefit should not be talked about too much overseas, or the corrupt governmental operatives will be upset.

I would advance population control. I would educate young people in the advantages of the child-free life. Overpopulation is an environmental problem we seem unwilling to address. Overpopulation in poor countries is a problem because it puts a stress on land resources and on the limited availability of clean drinking water.

But its also a huge problem in the developed world. Each American uses up so much of the world's resources that continuing to reproduce at our current rate is just asking for disaster. All the hybrid cars in the world won't make a difference if each of us continues to have 3 or 4 children. Even 2 is too many.

Plus, children just make the poor poorer.

It might not be unique, but I think clean drinking water is first and for most the most important cause today, with global warming and saving the planet coming in a close second. If everyone on this planet has clean water, many diseases will be halted and travel time to walk to stinky water holes eliminated...

I would want to provide meals for the starving people in Africa, India etc.

Rice or oatmeal or whatever other charities give them is wonderful...it keeps them alive.

But I would want to give them a good hot meal that they would normally eat if their lives were normal again..
