I totally agree except for one thing. I do not think we should vote on one day. We should vote for weeks. I think EVERY single vote should be counted. EVERY SINGLE ONE. It seems to me that they do not count every vote before the winner is even announced.

As I remember the electoral college was set up so "un-informed" voters wouldn't be conned into voting for a fly by night last minute candidate.
But there is still the option of a write in candidate.

Click on the link below, which shows how each state is involved in the electoral college voting process.
Check out Electoral College re: voting
By the way all states are included in the voting process.

Louisiana has a similar system to vote for its governor. Ballots often have multiple candidates from both major parties. If one candidate does not receive more than half the votes, they have another election, called a run-off. Seems to work for them.

They aren't on the same day because there's no part of the Constitution that says they even need to have a caucus or a primary! State party delegations used to choose the nominees they wanted to represent them, and the battle would be settled at the big national convention, but now there is more people-power... so the primaries are held and the convention is just a candidate-promotion event
There wasn't any one group who decided the order. it's just tradition and political dealings

I think you are misinformed about the election process.
You should first be asking how the various party's candidates are selected and then how the President is selected.
