The art to asking an open ended question that will generate a long response is to first think about what things the person is motivated to talk about.
For example, some people love to talk about themselves, others do not. But those same people might have a particular interest in say for example, the stock market. So, ask them about that. Say, 'hey did you see what the market did today> What does that mean?'
Your questions may be too generic. If someone is interested in dogs and dog training for example, ask them if they can help you understand what is the best dog for you to get.
You get the idea.

Open ended questions, thought provoking questions, questions that can start up interesting conversations, maybe a little lighthearted as well.
One good one a relative told me was "If you were to make a movie of your life, what five songs would you use in the soundtrack".
"So I have friend you got offered a large sum of money to marry someone from the far east. Should he go for it and get married?"
"If you were lesbian, would you type of women would go for"?
etc, etc. Don't use these exact questions, this is just to give you an idea of the type of things you can use to get a conversation going.

I wish I knew. I feel like people just sit there and stare at me waiting for me to say something interesting. I think alot of times it's just because we aren't trying to talk to people that we have much in common with. I'm not the most social person so I'm not good at BSing with people. I wish I had more for you. Email me if you come up with something good. Good luck!

well usually if you ask them a general question or a question like when is your party and things like that well.....you get small answers. but if you ask them a specific question like what you did right now you get big explanations like what i did
