I recently inherited a nice but not too big piece of land. I don't have much money saved but have a nice income. Does anyone know much about modular homes? I was thinking of going that way. Anyone have any and info or expierence with modular homes. Are they considered like trailers? Not crazy about that look. Let me know!! Thanks. Oh, I'm in the New Jersey area.

Still need a septic tank installed and a foundation. Modular homes now can have a basement created under them.
The latter years, modular homes have same wall & insulation integrity as built homes. Some have roofed porches as well.
People can still tell it is a modular home & not a built one from the outside; the inside looks & feels like a house.

There are also prebuilt houses that can be put onto a foundation.

Just make sure there is a proper seal completed between the foundation and whatever home you put on it.

Some of the newer ones aren't too bad, you might want to check into the ones that are built in cubicles some of those are pretty nice too, we had a modular over a full basement before we moved to Tennessee which gave us a total of 3600 sq ft. I really like the floor plan and the storage we had, just do your research and closely check the quality and when purchasing remember you get what you pay for quality wise. Good Luck in your search.

There are good ones and bad ones. Modular home will not look like a trailer, typical called mobile home, not on permanent foundation. Look around for a company with model homes and check it out.

When I hear modular homes I think a big step up from a trailer. Dont they usually come in 2 halves and you see them going down the freeway. They can be very beautiful and are very sturdy and worth buying. You can even put a basement under them. The newer couble wide trailers are also a lot different than typical trailers used to be so dont be afraid to check them out .

I have worked in a few modulars and yes they do look different than trailers but if you are talking about the guts of the home, yes they are pretty much the same thing.........
if this is a house that you want to live in but also be a good investment,I would definitely say stay away from it............
