So I asked my friend in August to go to Germany with me in January. He said yes, but didn't have enough money saved up to pay me $525 for the plane ticket. Months later, he still owes me $525, and even more for a car that we rented ($184)! I trusted him with my heart, and now I don't trust him one bit. He told me he has been saving, but I wonder how much. He also voluntarily quit his job because he didn't like it, and got another lower paying one. Plus he just bought himself a new $200 rife for target practice! I'm extremely mad. I don't think he will be able to go with me at all, and I'm not paying for his ticket. How do I make him cough that money up? I want to be nice about it just incase he ends up going with me.

Well...this is never an easy situation to be in. I think if he is truly your friend he would be understanding as to why he needs to pay you for the ticket and car rental. He isn't being a good friend at this point. Maybe you need to just explain to him that if he is not going to be able to make the trip (which obviously means paying his way) you need to know while there is still time to perhaps invite someone else who will be able to make it (and pay their share!!)

Most importantly this is a hard way for you to learn the lesson in "loaning" a friend money. My dad always told me "Never offer anything to anyone that you are not willing/able to replace or live without". Every time you "loan" money you need to make sure you can afford it if you don't receive it back.

I know with friends we just assume we will get paid back.....but as the old saying goes, " You know what happens when you assume something... it makes and *** out of U n ME!

Good luck...Chalk this one up to lessons learned!

Threaten him in a nice way that you will take matters very seriously if he doesn't return the large amounts of money back to you soon!

Don't fall for exuses...
But sometimes in life you just gotta be a little aggressive to get things your way espeically in a case like this because if you don't then he'll just push you around til god knows when

Bring him on Judge Judy. Never let someone borrow money without getting it in writing that they will pay you back. Good luck
