That is, soooooo darn sad, " Sister Buk". My aunt lives in a retirement type of place, and she says that something like that happens ...too often. I hope it won't happen to me, or anyone else, we should try to think of those family members of ours that may live alone,...and give them a call, or a quick visit....more often.

True story... last year I lived in an apartment nexto this old guy I'd see once in a while who obviously had cancer; he one ear carved out from it, walked in tiny teensy little steps, leaving trails of drool all over the carpeted hallways, always wheezing, and once I even saw him with his shirt unbottoned and he had a feeding tube sticking out of his belly! Hey I'm in a healthcare profession and I see it all but this guy totally freaked me out. Worst part was that my apartment always had a bad smell to it, and slowly became worse and and WORSE, then I noticed the guy had been playing his favorite music (old Buck Owens stuff) for 3 days straight and the smell was HORRRRIBLE!!!!! a couple days later I saw people cleaning up his place and the smell was slowly dissipating. The poor old guy must have known the end was near and played the music to get somebody's attention that he.... was gone...

It could happen to me, since I do live alone and the kids don't call that often, and I only work 3 nights a week and have up to 5 days off in between. If I fall and can't get up I'm screwed.

No, nothing like that has ever happened to me. I don't think that anything like that could happen to me, before anyone jumps all over me with all the "You never know, anything could happen to any of us" stuff, I just mean that I'm lucky to get 5 minutes to myself some days. My parents live less than a mile from me and if none of my friends came by & found me I'm sure one of my parents would before 5 days had passed.

Either way, I'm very sorry to hear about your client.
My condolences.

Many years ago at a company I worked for, we were having new computers supplied by a firm whose rep was a lovely girl in her very early twenties. We learned that when she hadn't turned up for work after a weekend, emergency services went round to her flat to discover she had died in her sleep, overcome by carbon monoxide fumes from a faulty gas appliance. The details were not very pleasant, to say the least, and I have never forgotten the shock and sadness of hearing about this young life cut short so needlessly.

As for it happening to me ... of course, I could die suddenly and alone, but the chances of my not being discovered for longer than, say, twelve hours would be highly unlikely.

It's never happened to anyone I know, but there's this house by my daughter's school, where they found a lady last year, who'd been dead for about three weeks. The house just sold about two weeks ago.It had been on the market since the beginning of last December. It sold for under 60 thousand, but has an odor to it.Originally her niece was asking almost 85 thousand.Quite a drop in price.

I'm lucky to be living with a room mate and kids. There's not a chance no one wouldn't notice me dead. Sometimes I worry about the older people living by themselves. Five days, that must have been terrible for everybody involved - how sad.

I used to be a paramedic so that's nothing new to me, but I've never been like first on the scene. But my dad used to work as a handyman part time after he retired and they had him go check on a tenant who's work had called. Yep, the guy was dead, and had been for like 3 days. That's a smell you never, ever forget!!

Yes, as a matter of fact. My step father was dead for three days in his apartment before any one found him. I kept trying to call and call and call, unbeknownst to me that he had died . I guess that is why he didn't answer the phone.

I guess it's a rather gruesome sight to have to see.

Aww, that is so sad. No, I have never known anyone that has happened too. I pray that it doesn't happen to me but at the same time I am dead and would not know.
