It's leaking from the actual spout.

I guess dripping would be a more accurate description. The water is coming out of the tap where it normally would even when the water is totally off. All the pieces are still inside as far as I know.

I'm guessing compression means lever handle.

There's a plunger valve cylinder dealy in there, I can't remember the name of it exactly.

The rings on it are probably off or loose, or its old. Check the make of your sink, go to the store and get the new valve for around 20$. Buy some plumbing lube too, and grease that puppy up good before you replace it.

There are a couple of steps in between, but if you need to ask, you should phone a professional.

Honestly, you can't. Pipes are held together in a certain way and it takes some training to figure it all out. There are too many tricks to the trade. If you DIY Plumbing you might cause even more leakage, or, at best it is temporary, and soon to bother you again... Find a good plumber.

could you go into a little more detail for us? is the leak at the base of the faucet? is it leaking out above the sink, or underneath it? does it appear to be leaking where the pipes go into the faucet base? the more complete your description is, the better we can answer you. thanks.

is it spraying from the spout, or at the base? if its spraying from the spout just unscrew it and clean the screen and maybe replace the o-ring. if its leaking at the base it just needs new o-rings.
