Mike admitted it on his morning talk radio show. He said he did for about 5 weeks as he was coming off an injury. He admitted that it was against the rules, but there was no testing, etc for it. I honestly appreciate his honesty. Maybe more athletes should fess up.

Undoubtedly, he did, and has said so. But putting that use into the context of reality, it's hardly startling. People don't realize it, and the league doesn't discuss it, but steroids date from the 60's and maybe even before. Some teams insisted on players using them, especially injured players. They not only were not illegal, no prescription was required. Look into the average age of death on the Steelers' teams of the 70's and you'll see what happened. They only came under serious scrutiny in the middle 90's. By then, of course, a lot of this stuff in circulation was veterinary grade, rejects, etc., etc., etc. , because by then, for the "good stuff", prescriptions were required. Still, steroids DO have a legitimate use under a physician's care. The real problem is guys who use them like candy, in HUGE quantities. And of course, the league has a very strange policy in outlawing them ENTIRELY... Calling them "performance enhancing" is correct, but NOT a complete description. They're mainly about speeding up the healing of damaged or strained tissue, which is how the "big boys" get more out of their workouts. I do not suggest re-legalizing, but it would help if more fans had some knowledge about this slop, and if the league came clean and discussed things that really happened, instead of stupid fantasies.

I didn't hear the radio confession and I am a little surprised. I really like Golic and I wish him the best.

i heard him on his radio show recount his brief use of roids to recover quicker from an injury to be ready for training camp. there was not an nfl policy in place at this time, however, they were illegal. he got them through his local gym and used them for about a month.
