"Cozy " brand floor furnace. Pilot light lights. Gas valve will not open for burner flame. It is not the thermostat unless the wires to the thermostat have beome disconnected between the thermostat and the gas valve. Have already gone around thermostat. I used to work on "boilers" so am some what acquainted on how the furnace is supposed to work. If I go arond the 2 Limit disk, I then believe I either have some broke wires or something is wrong with the gas valve itself. What do you think?

You need a thermal coupling. They are inexpensive, and easy to replace. Go to your favorite heating and cooling shop with the make and model number of your furnace and they'll help you.

Is your thermostat a Powerpyle, 24 volt or 12 volt? The first thing I'd do is disconnect the thermostat from the gas valve. Go upstairs and crank up the thermostat till the mercury bubble is at the far left hitting the contact points. Go back down cellar and check the thermostat with an ohms meter to check for continuity. If that's ok I'd start looking for a new gas valve. I bought a new Honeywell gas valve from HEP Supply this Summer for a tad over $100.00. They're on the Net also.

My gas valve controlls a twin shot natural gas conversion outside of a Ritchmond fuel oil furnace. It was over 30 yrs old. The old gas valve had a lot of dirt inside it because it had no pre-screen. The new one rolls over like a champ.

Eliminate everything and put voltage to the gas valve...then you'll know whether it's the valve or wiring>
