My ex and I split up 15 years ago. Since then he has only paid maintenence for three months. (the first three months) The child support agency has said that he owes me £4000 (not much for 15 years really) But that because of his low income he doesnt have to pay me back yet. (hes paid cash in hand-Ive tried to report this but the DHSS were not interested)

Will he always be liable for this debt? Of does he just need to wait for our son to leave full time education, then he can go on the books, and be debt free??

He will still be liable after your son leaves school. I think the CSA have it right in this case. Does it do anyone any good to financially ruin him? No. The sooner the CSA is axed the better.

Also, the CSA won't make a father (or mother) pay where they have no contact through no fault of their own, (court order, or uncompliant mother)

And the more he has his son, the less he has to pay, according to the CSA formula.

You need to see an attorney and review your options. The debt could be garnished from his wages, or eventually he could go to jail for nonsupport of a minor. It depends on your specific situation, I guess.

You need to ask an attorney where you live.
