Am I wrong to be so irritated that the teller looks at my checks, and then real friendly-like asks all about them? "Do you have a business?" Uhm, sure. So What do you do? Today I ignored her and she insistently asked, SO WHAT DO YOU DO? I felt obligated to answer rather than seem rude, but it's irked me all day. Is it any of their business or should they just handle your transaction professionally? Not like the amounts were anything big at all, just all the same. I'm sure she can read the "memo" notes on them, but can't they just do their job and respect your privacy? Are they trying to sell me a different account? Do "business" accounts make them more money? Can I just tell them it's none of their business???

I feel it is like the housecleaner who cleans your kitchen but keeps asking you personal questions regarding items she picks up, your love life, etc.! (That's happened, too.)

The teller probably does not realize it is unprofessional to get too personal about your money money.

Talk to the branch manager about how you feel, hopefully that will reduce this chatter, if you really want to.

But remember, she might be a potential customer or she might know someone who can become your customer. You should always be promoting your business because you never know who might become your customer.

The tellers spouse might be really rich and looking for your type of business.

Remember, everytime you walk outside is an opportunity

Good Luck!

It could be a security question. Try answering the questions honestly. Maybe they've had a run in with a lot of fake checks lately and that is what they have to do all the time now. If it really bothers you, then go inside and pick a teller that is always there and knows you. Or find someone that sits behind the desk and just use them. Try depositing checks at the same time daily, weekly or bi-monthly.

She might have been flirting with you? Just guessing, but I'd think working in a bank would be a good place to pick up rich men?! Maybe I need to hang out at the bank more.

But like the first answerer said - she may be trained to do that. But I am with you - its unprofessional.

At our bank, if you deposit cash and it a fairly large amount they ask you what your employment is. I have done business at this bank for years but they still ask. I just say Gambler and laugh and they laugh and I go on. Not sure why they ask cause I am really a housewife. Maybe they think I am getting my funds illegally. Garage sales!

She was trying to be friendly.
I work for a bank and we learned to get to know our customers so if something is fishy we can spot fraud.
Nothing personal.

"Good Morning " is being nice; "What do you do"? is being rude. Tell her you're a forger or a bank inspector, or a leper, new in town.
