Nothing at all. For street purpose to get the full advantage of the ground effect you have to ride pretty fast and you might end up pulled over before you get any thrill out of it. Just a fashion statement, to make the car look fast. On the streets you need that clearance for good handling since the roads are pretty different from place to place. Beside the car jumps a lot and is hard to control too.
People need to realize a race track is a control environment. The track is smooth as it can be and all the twist and turns are designed for speed and some difficulty. The streets are chaotic and random with poor surfaces. The race track settings does not work well there.
I bet if people raced on any streets the car will not look that low to the ground. It will be need it some suspension damping to keep the tires on the ground and be able to control the vehicle. Without control, power is nothing.
Back in High School many years ago... one of my class mates wanted to make his Honda CVCC to look Circuit Racing cool, he took the springs off to sit that car low to the grown. Dang! I rode with him and my kidneys suffered a big pounding.
Put it this way, is like wearing a tight pair of shoes but sure they look cool... :-))

Can result in slightly higher top speeds/better acceleration and fuel economy. 4. Lowering usually requires stiffer springs or coils. These stiffer parts will help make the car more rigid and lessen body movement which all aids to the better performance. Especially in the handling category. This will also lessen car sickness for most people if it's not extremely stiff, and help make the ride smoother while on smooth roads. 5. Some people love the look of a lowered car. 6. Makes your car more noticeable. Will stand out more and get more attention. Disadvantages: 1. Less ground clearance. The lower you go the more likely you are to bottom out on a speed bump/curb/pothole/etc. 2. Less ground clearance will make your car get stuck in snow or mud much easier. In other words the lower you go, the less suitable you are for any kind of off roading or heavy precipitation like floods or heavy snowfall. 3. Will affect insurance. 4. The stiffer springs or coils will result in a more rigid ride which will make you feel every bump and crack on the road more than you would have before. Making bumpy uneven roads much less comfortable. Which could lend to car sickness. 5. Some people hate the look of lowered cars. 6. Makes your car more noticeable. Will stand out more and get more attention Lowering your car a small amount. Say 0.8 inches, or around there, could add a bit of a sportier feel to the handling of your car without sacrificing too much ground clearance. Or becoming too noticeable to others. Note that some cars are already sitting low and may not even receive all of the benefits that lowering a car usually would receive. In fact some cars will accelerate more slowly when lowered, but this is not the norm. Also some cars are more suited and benefit more from lowering than others. Going to larger rims will not benefit performance much and will most likely be detrimental. Some people like the look but most performance enthusiasts hate it because of the fact that it usually slows the car down. Personally for a Mazda 6 if you wanted to spend the money I would suggest lowering it a small amount, like around an inch and instead of 19" rims stick with 17" and get a custom wheel or just add some flare to your stock wheel with colour. P.S. If you want better braking, handling and take-off characteristics for a car like the Mazda 6 one of the most noticeable improvements you could do would be to install a set of performance tires. But this is obviously much less noticeable visually.

Lowering a vehicle lowers the vehicle's center of gravity which in turn improves handling capabilities. Lowering the car coupled with improved suspension components can also reduce body roll in turns and help keep your tires planted to the ground, increasing traction. The car is also made more aerodynamic with more of the wheel in the wheel well, but the effects of this would not be observed unless you were traveling at high speeds.

Oh gee, there are a lot of advantages. You'll need a total alignment complete with strut plates. Add in much stiffer valved shocks and or struts to prevent the car from bouncing uncontrollably like an NBA Basket Ball. The new lowered springs are built with larger diameter wound wire. It creates a spring with very high rate per. inch of spring travel. Go to a lowering spring website and call them. You need to know what the stiffer spring rate is. Don't be surprised if they don't clam up on the spot. They don't want you to know what you're gettin into. Oh yes you'll need a strut tower brace so your uni-body car won't twist up like a pretzel
Oh crap I can't think of any other advantages.

There are no advantages unless you like your undercarriage ripped out every time you go over a speed bump or going into and out of a drive way. It looks retarded and completely voids any warranty.
