Yes we can, they are called traitors...or let me put it a little simpler for you...they are Lib Dem's.

If someone enlists in the Military for say 2 or 3 years active duty, they are automatically put in the inactive reserves for EIGHT years. Everyone is told this up front. So, if their 2 years active duty stretch is up the military can call you to active service for 6 more years. Nothing is hidden from them. There is no small print. It's all there in black and white. The military is not holding folks past the time that they committed to. If during that time, they go AWOL, they are to be blamed and punished.

No not at all.
In fact the only reason the US pulled out of Vietnam was because the troops were no longer doing their jobs, they refused to drop bombs on the enemy and dropped them into the ocean instead. They refused to shoot at the enemy and wasted all their ammo, they were content to wait out the war were they were until it was called off because they could see it was wrong.
Why should people die for political gain. The same is happening now and the only way they will come back alive is to stop fighting and just wait till they have no option but to bring them home.

Yes.
You can say there is less shame in it, I won't jump to disagree with you now.
But awol is awol for a fairly specific reason.
There's also fragging, which is different than awol, and more like "mutiny", but it happens.
Every
captain and seargent has some faint awareness of the potential of this kind of thing if circumstances are allowed in certain ways to become extreem.

Well actually, most first term soldiers, do not deploy several times, they deploy just once.
There are some who have done two deployments,
But generally, those are soldiers who have reenlisted.
Now in some of the other branch's, where tours are alot shorter,
You have people with multiple deployments.
The Army average once deployment in the first enlistment.
The Marines average two deployments of 7 months each.

Apparently none of you have ever been in the kind of situation where you wonder if today is your last day on Earth.
Apparently none of you have ever been brainwashed by military programming BEFORE you find yourself in a combat zone and then finding reality AFTER you get there.
Apparently none of you have a clue about the stress, tension, and adrenalin that is CONSTANTLY with you unless you manage to get some sleep.
Apparently none of you are over there now finding out firt hand what HELL is!
You have no right to judge...none!!! Unless you have been there. So go enlist and learn first hand and stop your damn intellectualizing and go experience something that is about as close to living death as you will ever get.

Unless you have been through what they are going through I don't think you have any say so about it. I spent two tours in Viet Nam, and it took me years to get over it. I still have problems at times, but I have more control over it now. So, I can understand what they are going through, and in some cases I really don't blame them.Unless you have walked a mile in their shoes, don't be to quick to judge them....

Tours of duty have been extended and are just too long. Tour lengths should be reduced and a draft re-instated if we need more troops.

Yes, we can blame them. But to put things in perspective the desertion rate is far less than Vietnam...for instance. You can't expect 100% happy people...even in a volunteer force.

When serving in a All Volunteer Military yes I do. This is not some job where when you think you have to work too hard you can just quit.
Chi guy - I agree, and that also includes all members of Congress.
