Well, the obvious difference is the hardrive capacity. If you plan on downloading alot of games and demos off of of PSN (playstation network, which is free by the way), than the 60 GB is the way to go. The 60 GB is pretty much gauranteed to play any PS2 game. The 20 GB uses an emulator to play PS2 games which can be play spotty at times. Also, 60 GB has a few more USB ports, along with a few other ports on the back. Just check the back of the box for a quick rundown. And lastly, the 60 GB is shinier and chrome trimmed. If I was to have to buy again, I will still go with the 60 GB model. This is only because I have some PS2 games I want to play. Backwards compatibility sold me in the end.

The first guy that answered this question is incorrect.
The 20GB and 60GB PS3's both have the best backward compatibility out of all of the PS3's because they both have the Emotion Engine chips inside of them. The 20GB and 60GB PS3 can play almost every PS1 and PS2 game ever made.
The 20GB PS3 doesn't have built in WiFi and it's the only PS3 that doesn't have built in WiFi. It has 2 USB ports, it doesn't have the digitial camera flash card slots, and it doesn't have the shiny chrome trim on the console.
The 60GB PS3 has built in WiFi, it has 4 USB ports, it has the chrome trim on the console, and it has the digital camera flash card slots.
The 20GB and 60GB PS3 are both the same in terms of power. Sony wouldn't downgrade the 20GB PS3 and put inferior technology in it. All of the PS3's use the same technology. They all have Bluetooth, Blu-Ray, a Web browser, and free online play.
Sony stopped producing the 20GB PS3 a long while ago, and you probably won't be able to find the 20GB PS3 anywhere but Ebay. Also, Sony has stopped producing the 60GB PS3's, but you can still find them in some places, but they will all be sold out eventually.
The only PS3's that will be avaliable for good after the 60GB PS3 sells out will be the 40GB and 80GB PS3.
I recommend the 60GB PS3 if you plan on buying a PS3.

Sony got down to make the PS3 your position media center, with the means to receive and upload videos song and all styles of media. The 60 G will grant extra room to do precisely that, yet in case you in basic terms choose strictly a recreation console the 20 will perform the very similar, similar video games, similar velocity, similar pictures. further: The HD length has "0" to do with velocity. imagine of it as a hose filling a 20 gallon bucket vs. a 60 gallon the water (records) is going a similar velocity the 60 in basic terms holds extra. that is what makes the device quickly: a million gig of sram significant RAM 25.6GB/s RSX @550MHz complete floating factor performance: 218 GFLOPS those specs are a similar for both.

the 20 gb ps3 is not as powerful as 60 gb!!! the 20 gb doesnt have the silver crome or that silver line on it!!!! , doesnt have as much hardrive space and i believe it cant play any ps2 games!!!!
anyways if u could afford a 60 gb ps3, then i would go with that but if u culd afford a 80 gb ps3 then that would be the perfect thing!!!
